It’s quite interesting that of course, the film is very Korean-American (rather than Korean), rather in the way that Black Panther (for instance) is very African-American. This is obvious in the way that one of the creators and most of the cast (both actors and singers) are Korean-American.
Maggie Kang, the principal creator, is Korean-Canadian rather than Korean-American.

I finally watched it tonight and I even enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

Wasn’t bad. I wasn’t the target audience. Followed the formula although somewhat suprised at the ending
What is the significance of the cat? Was it a neutral character or leftover and missed?

The cat is a non-evil demon-world being, so yeah neutral essentially.

Also everyone loves the poor idiot cat dearly let's be real. The paw creeping towards an object to try and right it got huge laughs every time with the people I watched it with.

They didn't use it or certainly haven't admitted to it.

Do note that if you Google it, Google AI will lie and say they did, but then actually links to a Wikipedia article which doesn't support the claims at all and to someone using AI to make "realistic" version of the characters from the show, demonstrating how fallible AI is and how it lies very casually.
"They didn't use it" is a broad term now. I don't believe for one second that any top professional in a technical field related to digital animation isn't using AI to perform their job, even if it's as simple as using AI chat queries to replace routine Google searches throughout the day.

It's simply unrealistic to believe that technical professionals aren't using AI almost constantly now. I know that I and my peers in IT sure are.

My daughter (7) is obsessed with the film. I've only seen bits, but have heard the soundtrack rather more.

Our cinema actually did a set of showings of the singalong version last weekend. Alas, we were busy, and it seems to have been a one-off.

My family all really loved it. My kiddo sings the songs on the regular. Quite a few people I know have really embraced Rumi in particular as a metaphor for some flavor of queer identity

I think four of the songs (Golden, Soda Pop, Your Idol, What It Sounds Like) have all featured in top 10 song lists over the summer, and Golden is basically the unofficial anthem of this summer all over the world.

Sony must be kicking themselves about having sold the music rights to Netflix as an afterthought.
