(Netflix) K-POP DEMON HUNTERS

I think this is kind of funny, because you appear superficially to know so little about digital animation that you can't even describe how they'd be using beyond "Well maybe they use ChatGPT instead of Googling stuff!" and like, yeah, maybe. Last time I had an argument like this it was about static digital art and it rapidly emerged the person literally did not comprehend how digital art was produced, like they didn't understand the process on the most basic level, a level of understanding you could acquire simply by yourself producing some digital art using GIMP or the like. It's fun to use words like "indubitably" but like, it helps to have a more specific basis when claiming that kind of degree of certainty. They'd be fools not to use it to do what exactly?

If all you're saying is "sometimes people use ChatGPT instead of Google!", well, sure. I certainly do if it's something where ChatGPT has eaten all the manuals and discussions and can regurgitate useful bits on command. But it seems like you think there's more to it than that?
I'm not going to get pulled into some tangential side quest so you can massage your ego in an attempt to weasel out of a position you know is wrong. 🙃

This was my original claim. You still haven't moved me off it:

"I don't believe for one second that any top professional in a technical field related to digital animation isn't using AI to perform their job, even if it's as simple as using AI chat queries to replace routine Google searches throughout the day."

You've said a lot of words in response.... Unfortunately, not the right words to address that. 🤗

I don’t think you’ve said anything that addresses what RE says either. Sure, it may be the case that most of the people who worked on this film used machine learning to assist various functions in animation, music production, etc. Or they may have not! I think it’s likely they did use it for animation since the same studio did do so for Across the Spider Verse. But we don’t know and they didn’t say, and your assertion that they must have done is based on faith, essentially. I agree it’s likely but I’m sorry, “I know from my work that lots of people in lots of technical fields are using machine learning for similar things” doesn’t prove anything,

Finally got around to renewing my Neflix so I could give it a watch with my wife. We loved it. So much so, we called my sister over and watched it again.

The animations were fun to watch throughout. Whether it was dancing, fighting, or emoting, it was always done in a clever manner.

As for AI, I find it hard to believe after their success with it on the Spider-Verse movies they'd just stop using it now. The music looks to be done by professionals though, so unless it's already an industry standard in KPop, I'm thinking not used here.

I think the big takeaway is that AI doesn't always equal "bad" and those that learn to adapt it are going to benefit.

Mod Note:

“Keep it civil” & “Don’t make it personal” are 2 of the things we expect of ENWorld’s posters. It helps keep discussions on point and reduces bickering.

Your post, OTOH, is the opposite.

We would rather posters de-escalate, disengage or even report posts instead of jabbing at each other. Please do better going forward.

I'm very annoyed the moderators let this get into ANOTHER fight about AI. Sigh. This site is really going downhill. Thread after thread the same people over and over.

I do know absolutely nothing about the textiles sector but I know enough about motorized vehicles and their importance for supply chains that I would bet money that they get used in textiles sector. If you know enough about the tool, you don't need to know the domain of the user to answer if they use it. I also would bet money that AI got used in making this movie at some part of the process. Not in the way that makes the internet rage eg. "Design me a K-POP idol that slays demons" but more in the way of asking ChatGPT "How can I make abs jiggle in Blender/Maya" to get an answer in 3 seconds instead of minutes or even hours of reading the documentary of said third party software.

I agree that statements like "Did AI get used" are way too broad especially digital sectors. I think the more interesting question for a movie like this would be if creative inspiration came from AI prompts or designs or if AI drawings got included. And if yes came training data only from the own products or also from external sources. That any AI get used for anything is almost guaranteed.

Its neither the mods fault nor the users fault here that AI discourse dominates the tech sector, animation included. If a movie or game used AI is an important topic for many consumers for different reasons. To expect that this topic gets not discussed for one of the most successful animation movies in recent years is not reasonable IMO, especially because said studio confirmed that they used AI technology extensively for their previous move (Spider-Verse 2). I can understand that it annoys you, but IMO mods should not moderate a topic away if its not completely off-topic. Which it is not, for the reasons I stated.

Yes, well, you aren't exactly helping it get off that topic with this post, now are you?

The moderators don't generally pick and choose what topics people can talk about.

Cheats will take any and every opportunity to justify themselves with "its okay because everyone does it".

Are you of the expectation that, lacking a specific name, we would not see this as an insult to some of your fellow posters?

You would be wrong about that. Show greater discernment, going forward, please.
