I'm specifically wondering about Neutral summoned creatures and if they are warded by the various Protection from alignment spells. In the text of Prot. Evil, it says that Good summond creatures are immune to the effect. However if you read through Prot. Good, it states specifically that it prevents contact by good summoned creatures.
The description of Protection from Evil seems to spell it out pretty clearly though I don't know why Neutral creatures would be warded by such a spell.
So I looked at how many creatures one could summon with a standard spell that were Neutral. It turns out it's 9, and pretty much all are elementals.
Now either the Protection from alignment spells are inclusive of the Neutral creatures because there are so few, or they don't actually protect from Neutral creatures, and summoning one might actually be a strategic move.
I rather thought it would make the spell more powerful to include Neutral creatures. With some exceptions, all elementals do is try to hit you. While the kinds of summoned creatures (particularly at higher levels) have other spell like abilities.
What's anyone else's take?
