New 4E ad causing problems

This is not completely on topic, but is this ad even efficient?
Sure, everyone sees it, but wotc should have realized that such an obtrusive and flashy ad is more likely to annoy people than make them go "wow i want this!", like negative reinforcement.
Surely an animated ad with a darker or even a black background would be just as noticeable or even more intriguing and maybe wouldn't give headaches and hurt the eyes so much?

Looks fine over here. Think of of it as an incentive to upgrade to a REAL monitor, people!
My main monitor is 1440 pixels wide.
My secondary monitor is 1280 pixels wide.

But that's irrelevant, because my FireFox window is usually ~800 pixels wide.
I like to make my own use of my screen real estate.

If the side ad only compressed the first post or two on a page, it'd be different, but it compresses everything. IMHO posts with independent widths (so a long picture / line of text doesn't screw up every post on a page) would go a long way to making such things less obnoxious.

It's pretty durned annoying. If it were placed at the bottom it wouldn't be a problem, but right now, it's very, very distracting and seems to be showing the exact same ad as the top one.

I know you can place more than one banner either at the top or bottom.

Nice. Too bad side banners cannot be restricted to non-message board pages, though. Allowing community supporters to turn off all adverts kinda lessens their value, too, doesn't it? Will WotC continue to purchase ads if they know they cannot reach the people who are most likely to spend money for something of value, like an EN World community supporter account?

Or install the Adblock extension and get rid of all banner ads.

... which means that impressions numbers go down, and everyone who's not running an ad blocker gets even more ads in the long run.

Don't do that.

Eh. I keep my bookmarks pinned open on the left side of my monitor because too much of the web looks odd on a normal maximized widescreen window. Narrowing or getting rid of the bookmarks panel would fix the 'scrunched' nature of ENWorld with the new ad, but at the expense of screwing everything else up.
