They didn't change the system math (this ia still the same game), they changed how they design individual Monsters: and the way they did so makes the changes less impaxtful than they even were before. Take the 2014 chart and slap it on a 2024 NPC, it won't change the CR, promise.
I'd like WOTC's opinion on that, rather than a non-designers opinion.

Crawford said in thw video in this thread that just dropped to go ahead and add thw traits, per the 2024 DMG guidance on how to modify stat blocks.

As to the 2014 table. It quite explicitly states that it didn't impact CR.

He didn't. He really didn't say that. He said you can just call it whatever species you want but he does not say go ahead and add any traits and it has no impact on CR. He never once mentions the impact on CR in the video. Just flat out he does not say that.

Do I need to go to the video and quote him directly to you, or will you stop misquoting him without me having to go do that?

He says to go ahead and add in traits from the Species to the stat blocks, please do go ahead and quote him verbatim.

Why would he mention CT, when that doesn6impact CR...? And as previously established, adding ASI and racial abilities did not impact CR in 2014, the way Monster math works now means it would be even less important.

No, you don't because I've done it for you:

Starting from 16:06: "I'd love to pause for a moment on something you said here, and that is: these stat blocks work for humanoids of any species, so humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, gnomes - so on and so forth. We have you covered with these stat blocks. And then just as we mentioned in the 2014 books, here again, if a DM wants to flavor any of these stat blocks with sort of rules elements from the playable versions of the species, you can always take traits from the Player's Handbook and apply them to these stat blocks, and I encourage also DMs to not only think outside the box - where, like, don't fall into the trap of thinking 'humanoid means human' - but also don't get trapped by the names of these stat blocks."

My emphasis.

Firstly, I think it's noteworthy that he specifically called out the 2014 books. Secondly, he also specifically said you can take species traits from the new PHB and add them to the humanoid stat blocks in the MM. Now, granted, him not mentioning anything about the traits affecting CR doesn't mean they can't/won't. However, I think since he did refer back to the 2014 books, that's a sign that they've taken a similar approach ... and going by the 2014 DMG, species traits generally won't affect CR at all.

Someone on here had opined that they may have considered a table similar to the 2014 DMG one, and cut it for space...Given how packed the DMG and MM are, thwt seems probable. But I think it is clear from what Crawford says that the philosophy behind it still applies.

I think a lot of things got cut for space from all three books. I really wish they'd still put out web enhancement PDFs. Even something on DDB would be acceptable at this point.

Right. WITHOUT mentioning the impact on CR. Which is what I have been talking about and you responded to.

CRAWFORD DOES NOT METION WHAT IMPACT SPECIES TRAITS ADDED TO NPCS HAS ON THE NPCS CR.

We agree on that now?

He doesn't in any way say or imply no impact on CR. The DMG says it may well impact CR. Crawford says nothing one way or the other.

I don't care what the 2014 rules say on this topic. That, to me, is completely irrelevant.

The 2014 rules are relevant enough that Crawford referenced it in this video as the continuing model: these traits do not impact CR, just as they did not in 2014. They never have.
