New D&D movie?

Seen on the news page:
A sequel for the Dungeons and Dragons movie will be released early in 2004. The movie is being produced by Zinc Entertainment, a division of Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures and in conjunction with Marching Band Productions and Sweetpea Entertainment.

Does anyone have any more info than this? Does it continue with the same characters? Is it a different story? Will it be as bad as the first one?

Well, the first one Sucked. Butt., but it is still what got me into the game. Indirectly. See, my friends told me about it, and I picked up the DMG at Borders since it seemed cool. Didn't actually see the movie until last year. I just left after ten minutes it sucked so bad.

I will see this new movie. I hated the first. It was like a long, slow leak all over my adolescent years. But I will see this new movie. I must. It has "Dungeons & Dragons" in the title.

I am such a tool.

It's hard to imagine how the sequel would be worse. But I fear they will find a way to make it even more terrible. Maybe they'll bring back that Wayans kid as an undead zombie Steppinfetchit figure -- oh wait, even that would be better.

I like the Wayan's character, he was the only one with at least a minor hint of a personality.

As to how it could be worse than the original...well, they could get the same actors and have the same director at the helm and he could have ignored all of us over the last three years or so as to how it could have been better...after all, he thought it was a piece of art and I think its a piece of junk...

Now, if they have different people and different director, then it might be ok. depends on the story they go with.

And please no black elves in a pink outfit...talk about horrible. (She was in a pink outfit, right???)

I too, shall see this movie...and vomit soon after, most likely. :p

If it's anything like the first, the director should kill himself now. Bad plot, bad action, bad story, bad acting, bad....everything! GAG!

The first one was a bastardized version of every possible sterotype character rolled up into six or seven....BADLY!

I mean, there's a world ruled by wizards, one of whom wants to get a hold of a rod to control red dragons. Even worse, there's these two rogues who try to break into their tower to steal stuff, and they somehow end up joining forces with a midget-dwarf and an inept adept to stop this freak. And somehow one of the rogues is destined(oooo  ) to be the only one who can retrieve the rod, and guess what!? THE ELVES HELP HIM DO IT! And what's more, they team up with a SURFACE-DWELLING DROW RANGER who serves the wizard queen, but here's the thing, she's good. And of course, the main rogue ends up multiclassing to fighter, and within a week is good enough to take on the biggest bad-ass in the kingdom. THAT'S NOT RIGHT!

IF I EVER MEET THE GUY WHO WROTE THAT SCRIPT I SWEAR I WILL CAVE HIS HEAD IN WITH A DICEBAG DULL OF PEWTER D20s! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

EDIT: Make that a CHAINMAIL dicebag!

Well I rented the DVD to see it and I was similarly unimpressed with the movie, but I have a sort of unhealthy interest in commentaries of any sort (actor/director/writer etc) so I had to listen to this one. From what I recall at the end of the movie the director mentioned there being 3 movies planned and that snails(? - the Wayans guy) would be back for the next one.

Lurker Ahoy!

The director had to plan 3 movies, so he could think he was making it better since it would have a single parallel with the LotR trilogy in that there are 3 parts.

*fuming anger*

GONNA KILL! GONNA KILL! GONNA KILL! KILL! KILL!
