New "Dead Levels"

I'm jazzed to see another of these articles. I really loved the first one in this series, and it's great to see it coming back for more. I was hoping for support for psionic characters, as well as the new classes in Tome of Magic, so I hope Kolja Raven Liquette comes back for a third installment!

I still disagree with their definition of a "dead level," so I can't say that I find this article too terribly useful. The author's view that gaining new spell levels is not significant is, in my opinion, flawed and represents a level of power gaming I do not agree with in the least.

Fantastic timing! My friends and I had just decided to incorporate these into our next campaign, and were trying to figure out what to do with the non-core classes. This article goes a long way towards remedying that issue.

I concur, as well. A new spell level is a significant cookie.

That said, it do like that they are addressing some of the shortcomings for non-spellcasting classes, and I like that some of the stuff seems as much flavor as crunch.

Actually, the fact that a class gains new spells per day or new spell levels in a level where it gains nothing else (which defines a "dead level" for the articles' purspose) means that any extra special abilities gained can be of minimum power. The author stated that several times is the article.
