New Dragon+ (issue 12): The Inspiration Issue

The tomb preview is great. It has a sidebar about possible places to put it, including the 6 original ones Gygax suggested in Greyhawk. Hopefully those who disliked the other 4 books being set in FR can appreciate their attention to explicitly stating it can be anywhere the DM sets his campaign, and giving the history about where it originally appeared.

Issue 12 of Dragon+ is out. It's called "The Inspiration Issue". It features some anthropomorphic cats, "tales of inspiration", Mike Shea's "Use This Book Tonight" advice column, and a sneak preview of art from Tales from the Yawning Portal, as well as the first two pages from the updated Tomb of Horrors. There's also a free adventure called "The Barber of Silverymoon", for levels 4-6. It features some of the monsters from Volo's Guide to Monsters. To coincide with White Plume Mountain's inclusion in TftYP, there's a PDF from an old issue of Dragon featuring Dragotha, the famed undead dragon whose name is on the WPM map (and who later appeared in the Age of Worms AP).

Looking at the Tomb of Horrors excerpt, it seems they're putting a lot of respect into how the original adventure was written, and warns that it's not suitable for more "kick the door and fight" players.

EDIT: Clever how they replaced the page count with a note on how it's an excerpt, preventing us from trying to do the content guessing we did with Volo's.

It's generally desirable to have people tying to guess the content of your upcoming product.

True, but it was more of how we tried to roughly piece together when each section began and ended with Volo's, and the "dragon+ exerpt" replacing the page count prevents us from trying to guess how many pages Tomb of Horrors will be based on where it is in the book.

Well, that was fun

Most companies would kill to have fans trying to do that. The worst thing is when nobody is trying to do that.

Fair enough, so it seems odd that it seems that they're preventing that this time around (then again, I'm sure replacing the page count with something like that is a more standard policy than I would think).
