Johnny Blaze sold his soul to satan (Mephisto) to save his father, a carnival motorcycle stuntman, from cancer. His father didnt die from cancer. He died in a motorcycle stunt accident instead. Satan bound Johnnys soul to a demon (Zarathos) and he became the Ghostrider, spirit of vengeance, chasing after the souls of killers and bad people.

Lots of stuff happened after that. Some of it utterly retarded that ruined the entire story. I dont think they are using any of the later disastrous retcons.

I giggled when I saw the Hellfire shotgun :)

Time to break out my GR tshirts again.

While I must admit that ol' skullface looks mighty impressive onscreen (and Nic Cage doesn't look half bad as well), I have zero faith in this film being any good. As long as Mark Steven Johnson is at the helm, I feel this flick will suffer the same fate as his other disaster, that being Daredevil. I'm still pretty pissed off that he butchered that one.

I never got into GR. Then again, I was never a big comic book fan/reader. But I don't know... The trailer did not impress me in the least. The effects looked kinda bad to me. The only one I really liked was the flaming bike riding up the skyscrapper. That looked bad ass. All the other effects reminded me of something out of the Mortal Kombat movie (Scorpion anyone?).

And Nicholas Cage? Why do people put him in these "I'm a bad @ss" roles?

I thought he was pretty cool as the bad dude in Face/Off, though I also thought he was kinda cool as the scientist in the Rock as well.

Out of curiosity, why don't you like him in 'bad ass roles'?

It's just his look. It's not a type cast kind of thing. I just don't think he physically looks the part of a bad ass. Now Vin Diesel... He's a bad ass (let's not think about The Pacifier, ok? :))

I was first introduced to Nicholas Cage when he was wearing pantyhose on his head, sticking up a convenience store for diapers.

So yeah, I have a bit of a hard time seeing him as a bad-ass.
