New group, high power, my ranger/scout needs to catch up.

Skirmish is useable with archery just fine. In fact, Greater Manyshot allows him to fire a full attack as a standard action and get full skirmish damage to each arrow.

The scout/ranger archer is dealing incredible amounts of damage with Greater Manyshot in the Age of Worms game I'm DMing. The Warlock also does a lot of damage, but the Scout/Ranger is probably our biggest damage dealer.

Yupp. If a scout/ranger with Gr. Manyshot doesn't do enough damage, the only reason might be that he does not hit... where the Shadow template hurts too due to lower BAB.

Alright, so this build assumes you are married to the shadow creature concept, if you are not you might want to consider getting rid or it. In a stealth/intrigue based game HiPS and the hefty hide/MS bonuses are great, but from your descriptions it sounds like this game is more "intense combat" heavy.

Dark template Human Scout 3/Ranger 6

Code:
SCT1: Point Blank Shot, Improved Intiative*, [I]Skirmish +1d6[/I]
SCT2:
SCT2/RNG1: Swift Hunter, Track*, [I]Skirmish +1d6/+1 AC, 1st favored enemy[/I]
SCT3/RNG1: [I]Fast movement +10 ft.[I]
SCT3/RNG2: Rapid Shot, [I]Skirmish +2d6/+1 AC, 2nd favored enemy [/I]
SCT3/RNG3: Improved Skirmish, Endurance*
SCT3/RNG4: [I]Skirmish +2d6/+2 AC, Distracting Attack[/I]
SCT3/RNG5:
SCT3/RNG6: Greater Manyshot, [I]Skirmish +3d6/+2 AC[/I]

* marks bonus feat, important class abilities in italics

Sources: Dark template is found in Tome of Magic (provides HiPS and +10 ft. speed increase, basically a toned down version of the Shadow template), Distracting Attack is a variant that replaces your animal companion from the PHB2 (any enemy you hit with a ranged attack is flanked until hit by an ally/the start of your next turn), Greater Manyshot is from the XPH and allows precision damage on your Manyshot (and lets you attack multiple enemies with it)

Other things you need to know: Get a splitting bow (from Champions of Ruin) it will double your damage output. Literally. Also, I can do a more detailed version of this build plus an average damage by AC chart if you want.

Dark template Human Scout 3/Ranger 6

Code:
SCT1: Point Blank Shot, Human Bonus: Precise Shot/Weapon Focus (you want to hit), [I]Skirmish +1d6[/I]
SCT2: [i]Uncanny Dodge[/i]
SCT2/RNG1: Precise Shot/Weapon Focus (the remaining one), Track*, [I]1st favored enemy[/I]
SCT3/RNG1: [I]Skirmish +1d6/+1 AC, Fast movement +10 ft.[/I]
SCT3/RNG2: Rapid Shot
SCT3/RNG3: Swift Hunter, Endurance*, [I]Skirmish +2d6/+1 AC, 2nd favored enemy [/I]
SCT3/RNG4: [I]Skirmish +2d6/+2 AC[/i], Level 1 spells, Distracting Attack
SCT3/RNG5:
SCT3/RNG6: [i]Manyshot, Skirmish +3d6/+2 AC[/I]
SCT4/RGR6: Scout Bonus Feat: Gr. Manyshot

Greater Manyshot is not on the Scout bonus feat list. Fortunately, it doesn't need to be - Rangers get Manyshot for free at level 6 with the Archery style, and Greater Manyshot's other requirements are already fufilled by then, so you can use the level 9 feat for it.

Why dont you take imp skirmish? Are you planing to take it on later lvl (12th for example)?

I thought precision damage like sneak attack and skirmish did not apply to the extra attacks made by manyshot?

Precision damage only applies to one arrow of a Manyshot volley. Greater Manyshot, on the other hand, specifically says that precision damage is applied to each arrow, and each arrow can crit.

Thats why ranger/scout deals huge amounts of dmg if played inteligently...
