So, the first release is the basic game. Is there going to be an advance game?

There is no Basic and Advanced. The "Basic" game is the Operations Manual which includes the rules to play and has the data files from the Breakout event. The Event books (e.g., Civil War and Age of Apocalypse) will be released in two formats: Premium (which includes the Operations Manual w/o the Breakout material) and the non-premium edition. The latter is for people that own a copy of the operations manual and don't want to purchase the rules information again.

Speaking of rolling the dice, that's the subject of this week's preview of the Marvel Heroic Roleplaying Basic Game. Also, check out the jazzy layouts by Jeremy Keller based on concepts by John Harper: Marvel Heroic Roleplaying Preview #3

Cheers,
Cam

When I saw this update come across my G+ stream last Wednesday, I went from mildly curious to very excited. I really love some of the gameplay dynamics that I can see lurking underneath the surface here. I can totally envision the way this alteration of Cortex (for which my only prior experience was the Serenity RPG) has the potential to lend a fantastic superhero feel to the game.

My only concern is that I'm dubious as to how the Event-natured supplements will play out, and whether the game will offer a strong enough framework to *not* play Marvel heroes. Any superhero game lives or dies for me based on how well it allows me to create and play my own heroes, be it in a familiar setting or not.

In any event, Cam, thanks for stopping by. It looks like you've helped create an exciting system, and I can't wait to see a few reviews to decide whether it will offer me the framework and support to play the type of game my group and I want to.

Agreed to the doubts in the previous post. I also have certain doubts about this system because I like starting out as a lowly hero and build a story for him as seen in the early days of the X-men which grow to be respected by the Avengers. Also, thanks Cam for having a presense. I look forward to the game.
