Under the current rules, you're not always prone when you have the Prone condition.
agreed, but at least there it is hard to find a good generic term that applies to the different options, for 'invisibility' there is the much better term 'hidden' (in terms of it being generic and more broadly applicable)

invisibility itself is fine, what is not fine is turning invisible by successfully hiding behind a bush. Please show me the various fantasy media that does that
Oh sure. I don't expect it to be run that way. And I expect a sage advice, if not an all out errata soon enough.

Just sorting out rules as written.

PC: So I'm completely behind the wall, total cover?

DM: Yes.

PC: And I'm not in anyone's line of sight?

DM: Yes.

PC: But I can see the dragon's toe. Can it see me?

DM: No.

PC: Okay, I Hide.

DM: Roll.

PC: But . . . fine. 14.

DM: You fail. The dragon moves five feet and breathes fire all over your face.

PC: Dammit!
Another reason the “activate stealth mode” approach to stealth is stupid.
