New Thundercats...

The thing about Loonatics is that there was absolutely no reason at all for using the Looney Tunes for that show. It could just as well be made with a group of new, non-anthropomorphic-animal heroes.

Yeah, but it's beside my point: Did the show do well? If it did, and Teen Titans did well for a while, If I recall correctly, it would provide impetus for the owners of Thudercats to follow suit, revamping an old property with the above format (which, you'll note, is similar to both Loonatics and Teen Titans, minus the teen band aspect).

Aesthetics aren't considered in my question. I have no interest in this show whatsoever, but something that came before had to give the owners the idea this would make some money somewhere.

Appropos of this, how well did the Loonatics do in the ratings? Could explain this type of move if it did well.

Yeah, I was thinking about this as well. I've heard that Loonatics is one of the shows returning when WB and UPN merge into CW, so it must have done well enough. I haven't seen the show, so I can't judge it, but it does look (and sound) pretty bad.

As terrible as the new Thundercats "reimagining" sounds, we shouldn't be all that surprised. Remember the weird, baby versions of classic characters? A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, Flintstone Kids, Tom & Jerry Kids, Baby Loony Toons, Muppet Babies (to be fair, they did debut in one of the Muppet Movies), Tiny Toons, James Bond, Jr., and Gadget Boy (I've never seen it, but a Kid Version of Inspector Gadget). And don't forget that horrible He-Man series from 1990 (He-Man meets Star Wars) and G.I. Joe Extreme (where everyone looked like Rob Liefeld characters and they fought against S.K.A.R.).

They announced they were working on a new Thundercats series a while back, but havent heard anything new about it.

As for this news item, considering the source is unnamed I'd be a bit wary about believing it quite yet. Until we get any confirmation on any of it, I'm considering it your typical internet rumor.

Even if it does end up being true, I'd want to see it first before passing judgement. It might not be classic Thundercats, but that doesnt mean it's automatically going to suck.

Like adults are into dreadful pay-2-play MMORPGs and iPods, kids are into anime in the same style as Pokemon and the Puffy AmiYumi's* Teen Titans series.

Because they're attracted to that style of cartoon arts, they'll watch, which means advertisers -- as well as toymaker of ThunderCats figures -- can expose their products to kids. After all, the primary purpose of Saturday Morning Cartoon is product advertisement.

*They're not creators or anime artists. These pair of girls are responsible for that damn song that is branded in my brain along with the THAC0 formula. :\

Great it's the Thundercats meets Josie and the Pussycats. I'm going to go cry now and wait until they destroy Thundarr and have ruined all the cartoons I grew up on.

Maybe the artists doing Dragonlance should do ThunderCats. In fact, I insist they take this assignment and put DL on the backburner. :p
