New Tribal World

For changing the ranger, you may want to think about how you view the ranger. If the class still has a nature slant to it, you may want to add a favoured terrain bonus (seen it in a bunch of alt. rangers out here). Plus, with the nature of the deities of the world, maybe they have a better connection with the animals? If you see the ranger primarily as a fighter, you may just remove some of the less useful stuff and swap them for feats.

The ranger could be taken a number of different ways in this world; some ideas are:

- The ranger could be much more of an animal master. These could even be taken so far that the ranger gains abilities based on an animal and such, but then the ranger would be a ranger in name only.
- The ranger could be much more of a fighter. Maybe swip the favored enemy for some fighter combat feats. Give them some two weapon fighting abilities to set them apart and take away their casting power.
- The ranger could become more nature powered. Take away some fighting ability and their bonus feats at first level, give them much better casting power and spells that are good.
- The ranger could be taken out.

Any ideas?

This list, though not finalized, should make it easy to come up with the human tribes and the geography of the world. I forgot armidillos! Armidillos would make great gods, I will add them in a second. I changed the list alot when I worked on the climates.

I guess I'll start by grouping animals by geography. It would be easy to do it by biomes, so that is what I will do. I'm going to be using the biomes fairly liberally, so don't mention it, because I know.

Quasi-Deity Locations

Aquatic: Crab, Dolphin

Desert: Camel, Vulture

Forest:
Temperate:
Dragonfly, Kangaroo, Koala, Rat, Spider, Swan
Tiaga: Boar, Crow, Coyote, Hawk, Deer, Wolf
Tropical: Ape, Toucan, Panda

Savana: Buffalo, Crocodile, Cow, Giraffe, Horse, Leopard, Rhinoceros

Tundra:
Alpine:
Mountain Goat
Arctic: Penguin, Seal

That list is probably pretty screwed up, but oh well. I suppose all the animals are worshipped, but only a few have a tribe congregrate around them.

I just realised I have no reason why some gods are in groups and some gods are unique. I suppose it is because the animals that didn't become gods died out. My next post will discuss the gods individually, I suppose.

I realize that this world is starting to get very unorganized, but when I am done I will rearrange it.

TRIBES AND RELIGION

NOTE: All tribes are assumed to revere the Earth and Sun, and many worship other gods in their area, these are just their main god.

Tribes in the desert:
Tribe of the Camel, Tribe of the Vulture

Tribes in the temperate forest:
Tribe of the Black Bear, Tribe of the Dragonfly, Tribe of the Grizzly Bear, Tribe of the Heron, Tribe of the Kangaroo, Tribe of the Kaola, Tribe of the Owl, Tribe of the Peacock, Tribe of the Rat, Tribe of the Raven, Tribe of the Spider, Tribe of the Swan, Tribe of the Turtle

Tribes in the tiaga:
Tribe of the Boar, Tribe of the Deer, Tribe of the Crow, Tribe of the Hawk, Tribe of the Raven, Tribe of the Wolf

Tribes in the tropical forest:
Tribe of the Ape, Tribe of the Toucan, Tribe of the Panda, Tribe of the Snake

Tribes in the grassland:
Tribe of the Whale

Tribes in the savanna:
Tribe of the Armidillo, Tribe of the Buffalo, Tribe of the Cheetah, Tribe of the Crocodile, Tribe of the Cow, Tribe of the Elephant, Tribe of the Giraffe, Tribe of the Horse, Tribe of the Leopard, Tribe of the Lion, Tribe of the Rhinoceros, Tribe of the Tiger

Tribes in the alpine tundra:
Tribe of the Mountain Goat

Tribes in the arctic tundra:
Tribe of the Penguin, Tribe of the Polar Bear, Tribe of the Seal

That list is long! That took a pretty long time. I started it out doing it realistically with each tribe having many animals, but I just gave up and gave each animal a tribe. This list is way to long to have regional feats or tribal abilities, which is really disappointing. We could have regional feats by grouping certain tribes together or just by making a really long table of regional feats. Could have tribal abilities by having a really long list of tribal abilities by tribe. Any other ideas? Comments, suggestions? Live monkeys?

The world is really changing from this point on. I've decided that the world would be much better as d20 and not D&D. The classes are going to be something like rogue, scout, and warrior. It's going to be much like Werewolf: the apocalypse with animalistic gifts and totems and such. I will post most of the stats and such the next time I am on.

There will definately be prestige classes and such about the tribes. Tribal, ancestorial, and totem feats. A skills and feats casting system most likely.

There will be a common enemy for all animals and humans, most likely. I haven't thought of one yet, though.
