Ninja Ki Powers

The Ki Powers for the ninja from Comp. Adv. list invisibility as one of the powers. However it doesn't describe it as a spell like ability. Does the power act like the spell in regards to attacking opponents? ie. When I use the power as a quick action at the begining of my round, move, and then attack using sudden strike, am I now visible or do I remain invisible untill the begining of my next round?

It's not a spell-like ability, and it doesn't reference the spell. Thus, it doesn't act like it.

(So, you remain invisible until the full time is up, even while attacking.)

You're talking about Ghost Step, right?

It makes you invisible for 1 round. It doesn't give you the invisibility spell for one round.

Accordingly, you can go invisible, attack, and still remain invisible until just before your action next round.

It is also a supernatural ability - which means it doesn't provoke an AoO (it wouldn't anyway since it is a swift action).

Duration is only 1 round per use though. If not careful the character will runout of Ki uses.

This is how I ruled as DM in my home game as well. I sent the question to WotC customer service and the Sage as well, but I haven't received a response.

It makes for some interesting tactics against spellcasters - ghost step to go invisible, throw a shuriken for sudden strike damage, move up to right beside your opponent drawing a weapon as you go, and make an AoO for sudden strike damage when they try to cast a spell.

Thanks now I just have to convince my DM of this.

As a releated note, can you use ghost step back-to-back for a continious effect or will you become visibile for a moment? Ie. when you cross open ground in two rounds, can you make it across without being seen or will you flicker in the middle of the crossing?

You'll become visible for a moment - though not a very long one.

Your invisibility ends just before your turn. You can, as your first action on your turn, invoke Ghost Step again. There's just a small gap between the two, and generally nothing can happen in that span of time.

However, someone could ready an action and interrupt your turn, potentially attacking you or casting other spells before you fade from sight again.

Ahh but using Ghost Step is a swift action.

Can you ready an action to disrupt a swift action?

I don't think so because of the nature of swift actions (they also do not provoke AoO). But I'm not certain of this one and can't find anything to address it - maybe someone else can.

Now, your invisibility will end right before your next turn so you are indeed visible for a glimpse before using your swift action to Ghost Step again.

But once invisible you have concealment again.
