Nintendo Revolution will play GameCube games

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata recently confirmed it in an interview. The full text of the article is over on IGN, but here's the relevant snippet:

Iwata also announced that Revolution would feature backward compatibility with GameCube, which means that consumers will be able to play GCN software on the next console.

This is refreshing news. All the moreso since it means that there will have to be controllers with something approximating the familar GameCube controller configuration, which helps to somewhat dispel rumors that the Revolution won't have controllers with anything familiar on them.

That is very, VERY good news. These days, the number one thing I look for is backwards compatability. I still pop in my old PS1 games in my PS2.

Not that I have the money to get a new console...

Glad to see the "old" games working on it... but I dislike the design of the controllers... I'm always so lost when I play on my game cube. :heh:

Like with the DS?

No, more like what's available on games such as MarioKart.

Really? I love it. Quite ergonomic and it's usually the A button that you need to use mostly (out of A, B, X or Y).

I like all my buttons to be the same size and in nice little rows... Don't get me started on ergonomic keyboard. ;)

I rather dislike the PS2 controller… The dual shock seems so poorly implemented; I love the Xbox small controllers but then again I really liked the Dreamcast controllers also. (I’m a big guy though, I can palm a basketball, so I’m sure everyone’s mileage differs greatly on this.)

I have smaller hands, and I still dislike the ps2 controller. Same grievances about the dual shock. I rather like the x-box controller (esp. the small one, although I don't mind the big one), but the small one has the white, black, start, and back buttons in the wrong spots.

Got to agree with the Start and Back buttons. Should be center of the control like everyone has done since the Nintendo. :)

The white and black button... I agree but at the same time I'm not sure where to put then. (Though I like the PS2 4 shoulder buttons so that would be my first choice.)
