Niobe's Dilemma (Manzanita Judging)

(OOC: He should have just gained 40 feet on Lasair and 120 feet on the others, except 80 feet on anyone other than Lasair who managed to spur. That's fine, it's only one range increment. Wait a second, though--why didn't Troi and Jaan shoot? Also, Wil should be able to load and also fire unless he spurred this round.

We repeat the strategy until the horse dies.)

OOC: Because they're spuring. And shooting a horse is usually considered in bad taste (It's not the horses fault it's rider's a kidnapper)

(OOC: Spurring is a move action. They can also shoot--and given the choice between the two, they should be shooting. And shooting a horse may be in bad taste, but if the alternative is letting a murderous villain escape and people die, you shoot the horse and try to heal it later. Is this guy supposed to be plot immune from this encounter or something? If so, let's just skip this part and say he gets away to get to the next part :))

(OOC: Well if Jaan and Troi won't shoot the horse, he might as well be plot immune because we can't catch him--only Lasair has the speed to keep up, and only if she can match his spurs, which is impossible.

I can't understand why the two abandoned players would possibly want to spur their mounts unless they were going to shoot--even spurred, they are moving more slowly than the bad guy when he doesn't spur, so even if they always rolled 20 and he always rolled 1, they would fail to close with him. Could we please have them shoot the horse last round? Am I missing something in this analysis? I know that sometimes I can be pretty dumb :o)

OOC: They were hoping to catch up that round, they may try this round :p You realy are ruining my perfectly good opertunity to write the two of them out though :p

(OOC: Hence my plot immunity comment ;) And don't worry, you're ruining my attempt to have us not lose this too :p Come on--they already know that their mounts are encumbered, and they know that even after spurring they will lose ground to an unencumbered mount. They knew this ahead of time. And where was their other standard action? They should still have gotten off shots. It's not like I'm retconning this (I would understand if that was the case)--I stated those actions ahead of time for them :( Even if they start not being dumb next round, missing the opening salvo is going to hurt us, and you can see how if the bad guy gets away by a shot or two, it will feel for us like it was stolen from us, right? If necessary to have him escape, just claim they're shooting and have them automatically miss, but at least have them shoot :()

OOC: Enough with the OOC already.

Ogrin enters the tavern..
The Barron's Champion's interior looks much like the exterior. Once lavish, it is quite run down. There doesn't seem to be a lot of activity, other than 2 tables of patrons (4-6 at each table), another few at the bar, and a inkeeper who is busy preparing drinks. The sign on the stairs leading up reads: Champion's Room with another sign on a hook that reads: Occupied.

Ogrin walks up to the bar, attempting to chat a little with the Innkeeper. "A good day to you, sir! A glass of fine red wine, if you please. Pray tell, do you think the back room will be occupied for a long time? Me and some associates have items to discuss, that will require some... privacy."

After discussing with the innkeeper, he then attempts to find a good place where he can watch the main room and have a good chance of sneaking a peek through the door should it open. He tries to note the faces and armaments of those that seem well-versed in the martial arts, in case he should encounter any of them later on.[/SBLOCK]
