No buzz for the 2011 Campaign Setting?

I assume there will be an announcment regarding the 2011 campaign setting at Gen Con. I'm surprised though that the buzz and speculation is almost completely gone compared to leading up to the Dark Sun announcement last year?

Perhaps it's because there is no clear frontrunner this time?

My predictions:

1. Spelljammer or Planescape

2. one of the runners-up in the competition that Eberron won / something completely new

3. More than one setting?

If the announcement was Mystara, I'd have a nerdgasm, but I significantly doubt it. The only reason I think it's even a possibility is due to 'Essentials' and the tie to the 'Red Box' era.

My money is on a new setting. The only reason there was hype and buildup to the 2010 setting was because it was an old favorite. We've had three established settings in a row, WotC probably thinks it's time for a new one.

I agree. I'd love to see what setting they have locked away from their search a while ago (Where they released Eberron).

Something new would be great.

Nentir Vale isn't new, but they may want to give us a break from too many settings too fast.

With the "publish and forget" model of settings, though, I don't feel that should be too big of a concern.

We've seen significant amounts of PS and SJ integrated into the "core setting" already, so who knows whether they'll get their own books eventually. I'd give that a strong possible, not necessarily probable though.

I do admit to being awfully curious, though!

"Essentials Forgotten Realms" ;)

"This isn't mean to replace the previous version of the Forgotten Realms, but provide a means for new players to enter into the game."

Hawkeye

I have mentioned this elsewhere, but I think it bears repeating, I would kill (ok not quite, but close) for a book on the Domains of Dread, even if it was short chapters covering a nice spread of levels from mid heroic to epic level done in a similar style to the Dungeon Magazine articles.

Eh, I think all the griefing about Essentials has just sucked the wind right out of setting speculation. There really hasn't been anything new to say about it in months and hand wringing about martial classes has provided a fine outlet for all those habitually engaged in speculation and rumor mongering. ;)

I put my vote in for a totally new setting. 4e deserves one nice solid setting built from the ground up with all new stuff.
