D&D General No More "Humans in Funny Hats": Racial Mechanics Should Determine Racial Cultures

How so? You claimed that having a floating ASI makes everyone the same.

As far as ASI goes, yes. Everyone doing whatever, is more the same, than some races getting STR, and some getting DEX.

You claimed that you need that fixed +2 to make people different, or at least more different.
Correct. Orcs + Str, Elves + Dex. Different.
Having no limitation on race or class also makes everyone the same, using that exact same logic.
It certainly does remove a layer of difference.

The difference is that was a hard restriction that could meaningfully stop someone from playing a character, mechanically.

This is not the same as missing a +1 somewhere.

Understand?
Also, why do you keep claiming that the only reason to have a floating +2 is to have a 16 in the stat? Are you incapable of imagining that people will put that +2 elsewhere?
Of course they can. The point of contention has in the past been about a character being supposedly ineffectual, if it cannot have a 16, at least.

Certainly, you can put that +2 anywhere, that's the mechanical effect of floating ASI.
Or are you just being a snob and looking down on those lesser gamers who optimize their character in a way you don't approve of?
Not at all.

You seem to be upset and unable to logically follow the thread.

You OK?

Mod Note:
Folks,

Don't make it personal. Address the logic of the post, not the person of the poster. Stop ascribing positions to personality flaws or failures of cognitive ability. You've both now made it about each other's egos, rather than the subject matter, and, frankly, we don't need to see you two going at it like this.

So, cool it, and be respectful.

I've repeatedly made the following clear.

The Floating System is now the standard, and indeed only option moving forward.

People are free to do whatever they want.

I don't consider optimization a bad thing.

The game doesn't require a maxed out Primary Attribute.

I see fixed ASI as a world building consideration.

Now if any of that puts me in the wrong?

Guilty.

Can you provide a source that say's Tasha's floating ASI is now the defacto standard, and what is in the PHB is no longer standard?
No, because the PHB has not been reprinted.

Reference the races provided by

Guide to Ravenloft (yes, they are templates, I get it)
Witchlight
Fizbans, especially, as it provides an effective reprint/errata of Dragonborn.

EDIT: Oh and every UA following the Spooky UA (Guide to Ravenloft)

Would I bet money that the 5.5 printing will match Fizbans? Yes I would. :)
