I want you to know that I mean absolutely no offense when I say this, but this is unbelievably naive. At the very least when we're talking about the internet, no, at least 90% of the time it is malice, it's just not usually not so obvious as it was here.That is a challenge, absolutely. But it's helpful to remember that for the most part when folks make statements like this, it stems from ignorance or immaturity, not malice.
Your problem is framing this as "[taking] it a personal affront" and not "recognizing it as an existential threat to my happiness, health, and safety", which is what I am actually talking about.If you take it as a personal affront instead of looking at it through that lens, for sure the challenge level of responding in a measured way is upped.
Building bridges with people who mock me and wish I didn't exist only makes it easier for them to make that wish a reality. I mean... did you watch the Community clip I posted?Bridging gaps doesn't happen through escalation.
