Not D&D

Torg.

Nowadays I like to update a few things (wireless tech, the internet for Core Earth) and snip a few bad apples (no thank you Tharkold!) but otherwise its my favorite game to run.

Most of what you say there makes me glad I didn't pick up SR4. Thanks!

I can see how people who didn't like the older versions or didn't play like 4E. I will give props where it is due the system does not have as many fiddly bits as the older versions. And I understand it is easier for newbies to learn.

It is just does not got the flavor and feel of Shadowrun that I want. I have not been on the Dumpshock forums in a while but the switch to 4E was as bloody as the one for DnD 4E. Last time I was there they had separated the forum to try and keep the peace.

Amber Diceless.

I love Zelazny's world of Amber. Gaming in it is a ton of fun.

Bonus: many female gamers in the Amber Diceless community.

Burning Wheel and Apocalypse World are probably my two favourite rpgs, bar none.

I have an itch to run Diaspora (FATE-based sci-fi) and would like a look at the new Marvel RPG some time as well.

Pendragon was the greatest fantastic roleplaying game which I ever played. It had serious mechanical flaws concerning Passions, but perhaps more recent editions have ironed them out.

Call of Cthulhu was the greatest roleplaying game not set in a fantastic world. Mind you, I had a perfect gamemaster for it.

I think if you are happy with the way game plays and you enjoy the world why swap unless you get a chance to play with people who like the older versions.

I started with 4 because that was the only group I could find. Husband doesn't like Shadowrun that much to play a longer campaign, if at all. But the campaign is about to end, and son got a gazillion SR 1 - 3 rule and flavor books for free from a guy who felt he had to quit thanks to no time anymore. That made 2 players speak up that they really preferred the older stuff.

I've not read them yet but once this campaign is done with I'm thinking of trying a run or 3 with the older set up.

Well, the new version of Hackmaster is my favorite RPG of all time, so that's easy. I'm also a huge fan of Aces & Eights (I'm currently in the middle of a great campaign for that). But moving away from Kenzerco, I like Call of Cthulhu a lot.
