Not D&D

Er...Kenzerco makes both the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting as well as Hackmaster. Considering how detailed a setting Kalamar is, it's not really surprising they wanted to use their own creation to support their own creation.

Not surprising but annoying if you want a setting complete and don't play Hackmaster. How much new fluff is there that I'd need to get to have a complete setting info? My group just started a new D&D game there a bit ago.

Another Savage Worlds vote. It is my favorite system for everything non-supers. I had almost passed on it based upon the previous test drive. Thankfully, announcements by Adamant, RPGObjects, and Dog House Rules that they would be supporting SW got me to give it another look.

New World of Darkness. I know that WoD gets knocked over here, but I love the core system especially. Not as much a fan of the games they've made for it, but with a mini of effort I was able to make a pretty good Bughunters/Justifiers game that ran well and we had a lot of fun with.

Agreed. I think the core nWOD is very slick and can be adapted to pretty much anything. It makes a great Sword and Sorcery base if you add in the Second Sight (and only Second Sight) book.

Ah, I understand where you're coming from. I thought you were saying they had bought out the KoK setting and imported it wholesale into their game. In my defense, it was really late and I hadn't slept yet.

To answer your question, they haven't put out a new setting book yet. But judging by previous incarnations of the setting they tend to write them as non-setting specific. If you pick up the 4E version of the setting, for example, then you've got a complete campaign setting including the atlas with almost zero 4e rules in it.

Yeah, I had also made a WoD Ravenloft creation using those same rules, but strangely no one wanted to play it.

Kingdoms of Kalamar?? That will always be a D&D setting for me. Not so cool if that's taken over by another system

KOK is my favorite setting. They had no choice they lost their license for it to be an official DnD setting.

Besides over the years I have seen KOK played using Ad&d, 3E, Hero system and Gurps.

Yeah you can play any setting with any system, really ;) I'll keep a watch out, found I'm still missing a few books from the setting.

I can't wait to story hour this specific campaign, none of the players knows the setting beforehand. But I first need to catch up with other story hours :)

As long as you have the setting book you don't really need anything else to run a great KOK game. Almost everything they put out for 3.0 is available as PDFs or you can find them on Ebay.

I run KOK and with the books I have I would never need to buy anything else to run games.

Yeah, I just like to have my setting info complete - despite me probably changing a few things here and there in the course of the campaign.
