Not D&D

I've been a fan of Savage Worlds since it's release, it's by far my favorite system for a large number of reasons. I've also been showing a lot of love to WFRP, Mutants and Masterminds and Call of Cthulhu. I've been dying to try the Warhammer 40k games and Mouse Guard.

I really want to like Dragon Age, but I have a very hard time justifying the cost for the game as it currently stands. If they release the entire game as a single book I'll likely buy it, but $70 for a quartet of booklets just doesn't seem like a value to me. I had a hard enough time swallowing the WFRP box set, and that came with enough bits and bobs to make running the game a surprisingly easy and fun experience.

I started with 4 because that was the only group I could find. Husband doesn't like Shadowrun that much to play a longer campaign, if at all. But the campaign is about to end, and son got a gazillion SR 1 - 3 rule and flavor books for free from a guy who felt he had to quit thanks to no time anymore. That made 2 players speak up that they really preferred the older stuff.

I've not read them yet but once this campaign is done with I'm thinking of trying a run or 3 with the older set up.

I suggest going with third then. It fixed some of the issues with 1 and 2.

I love Shadowrun our one campaign lasted years.

If you have any questions I would be glad to answer them if I can.

Well, the new version of Hackmaster is my favorite RPG of all time, so that's easy. I'm also a huge fan of Aces & Eights (I'm currently in the middle of a great campaign for that). But moving away from Kenzerco, I like Call of Cthulhu a lot. And I'm dying to try Outbreak: Undead.

Is the new Hackmaster setting now using Kingdoms of Kalamar as its defsult?

Except for the Pantheon, the setting specific stuff is kept pretty minimal in the core books, but yes, KoK is the default setting. All of the official modules that are currently out use it as the setting, for example.

Kingdoms of Kalamar?? That will always be a D&D setting for me. Not so cool if that's taken over by another system

New World of Darkness. I know that WoD gets knocked over here, but I love the core system especially. Not as much a fan of the games they've made for it, but with a mini of effort I was able to make a pretty good Bughunters/Justifiers game that ran well and we had a lot of fun with.

Er...Kenzerco makes both the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting as well as Hackmaster. Considering how detailed a setting Kalamar is, it's not really surprising they wanted to use their own creation to support their own creation.

I love, play and write for Mongoose Traveller, though there is always a corner in my heart for Classic Traveller. Old-school sci-fi the way it was meant to be - feels like a combination of Niven, Pournell, Herbert and K. S. Robinson all in one system.
