D&D 4E Not going to 4e

After playing star wars SAGA edition, there is no way I could play 3.5 ever again. I am anxiously waiting for 4th edition, liking all the crunch (till now) and most of the fluff (mostly pantheon, planar things, new devils and demons, lizard like race,... wizard traditions are just meh) . :D

I think you accidentally posted to the wrong thread - please check the thread title carefully before posting, thanks!

This has to be a troll, right?

I mean, of all the 4e changes to gripe about, and I'm still firmly on the go/no go fence myself, I see 1, 2, 3, and 4 on your list as very good things to fix. I'm thrilled to death that they're fixing each of those things.

Don't be quick to accuse people of being trolls.

This is a thread about people who don't plan to go to 4e, Brother Maclaren is just giving his reasons why he doesn't plan to go to 4e. Who are you to complain about his reasons for what he plans to do?

By all means tell us why you don't plan to go to 4e yet, but don't try to pick other people apart.

Thanks

I can tell the game is aimed at a much different audience than me. I simply have no interest in the game and have since moved on to 2nd edition and C&C for my games.

While I'm eagerly awaiting a 4th edition, this doesn't sound like the kind of revision I was looking for. I like some of the changes made to the mechanics (namely saving throws and deletion of save vs. death spells), but I find the flavor changes to be a little much. No mention of half-elves, half-orcs, or gnomes? I don't mind having new races as long as old ones don't get bumped out in order to accomodate them. Wizards as blasters instead of masters of arcane magic?

I guess I'm just not that enthusiastic about it.

I don't intend to switch immediately, or in the foreseeable future, to 4th Edition. We recently started a 3.5 campaign. It's been interesting this time around because everyone pretty much agreed to stick to the Players Handbook, Players Handbook II, and the Spell Compendium.

We're getting a much more "old-school" D&D experience while still maintaining some sense of balance between classes. Ogres and goblins are taxing at level 5? Yes. Go figure.

I would be interested in using the DDI/Online Tool if it isn't specifically tied to any one edition for purposes of mapping, 3D visualizations, etc., though.

I'm definitely leaning in the 'no' direction. Maybe we should have two more threads: "cautiously optimistic" and "cautiously pessimistic." Over the last few weeks I've gone from the former to the latter camp. I'm still following all the news, partly because I'm interested in game design but also because I'm hoping they'll say something that will sell me on 4E (not happening so far and, from the looks of things, not likely to). When the game comes out, I'm going to wait for the reviews, and then maybe I'll buy it, if it gets good reviews from critics whose opinions I value and respect. If I do buy the books, I'll read through them and maybe run or play a few sessions to get a feel for the new system. Then and only then would I decide whether or not to switch.

At this point, however, I'm feeling pessimistic enough that I don't expect to get past reading the initial reviews (I've already canceled my pre-ordered Races and Classes after reading kunadam's reports).

So, we'll see how it goes, but I'm liking 4E less with every new Design and Development column that hits my newsreader.

4.x is simply not for me. It took me a long while to try most of the tricks and baubles associated with 3.x, but I finally did, and as strange as some of my friends might think it for me to say it, the flood of character options finally grew to weary me. I don't want a game that's all about character options and tricks, chess like board movement, and everything else I associate with WotC's D&D. I'm done. Gone. Out. No longer playing 3.x or its successor.

Not buying 4.0.

Not planning to switch over to 4E. Although I'll probably be looking to see if there are elements that I can borrow for my 3.5 games but no, WOTC has effectively lost me as a customer after Rules Compendium.

There was booing? Ouch. :\

Yeah -- interestingly, this was the first thing my batch of friends at Gen Con told me about. This here is the first independent report about that I've heard, so now I can say my friends aren't plain crazy.

Anyway, no 4E for me or the folks I know. I skipped 2E and so too, apparently, 4E. For example, I completely agree with all 5 of Brother MacLaren's points. Other points you can see in my blog linked below.
