OA - any modules out there?

I am currently running a side game in OA (my equivalent of Kara-tur on FR). I am using the Ruroni Kenshin series/movie/OAVs as a basis for my game and have the PC (a crane samuraii working towards the iajutsu master PrC) and NPC (a dragon monk working towards the shintao monk PrC) approaching the capitol where the turmoil is currently ensuing. I had them go through a sidetrek where I played one of Dungeon's adventures: The fire opal (where the monk approached the samuraii for help in recovering the fire opal.) They emerged victorious - barely alive, and now are currently in a small village where I threw in a mini plot: to help the town defeat a tetarigami, inspired by Mononoke Hime (I used the monster from the smackdown list that is the axiomatic black pudding with the half-gold dragon template and a few other nasty things thrown in their to make the tetarigami.) Anyway, once they figure out that they need to solicite a hermit's help to defeat the creature they will get to the capital where there is a political war going on. However, trying to plan out the full scale of the war that occurred in the Kenshin series is beyond my time constraints. I am looking to find a module that will help me in this regard. Anyone who knows of anything that I could use, or any suggestions for anything else would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Political wars?

1. I don't understand what you mean by a "political war." Isn't that a "normal war?" :)

2. Charlottesville, VA - my old home, and I miss it dearly despite being in the coolest place in America, Seattle...

- Ketjak

This must be a pretty substantial homebrew since neither Kara-Tur nor Kenshin has Cranes and Dragons.:)

The cloest thing I can think of is the adventure in the Jade and Steel book. It's based in China but could be adapted I'm very sure. Some good fights and some intrigue as well. OA does really have much in the way of modules.

Read a book about the Meiji restauration (if you find one, japanese history, after all). That's the foundation of Kenshin's political backstory.
And it's called a tatarigami. Not tetari. ^^

Ketjak - good to hear from a local :). In Rokugan it is easily conceivable to have the shadowlands organize a force to fight the civilized world. That would be a war on par with Tolken's Lord of the Rings. I am interested more in intrigue and war between different clans.

Black Omega - thanx for the advice about the Jade and Steel book. Could you tell me where I could find such a thing. Oh, and btw, I actually know nothing about Kara-tur. I only knew it was the asian version of Forgotten Realms and as I use FR for my whole world, I just added another continent along with Faerun which is the Rokugan setting. As far as Cranes and Dragons - I know that they have at least dragons - remember Kenshin's succession technique vs. Shishio - where if the fang misses than the opponent is raked by the claws - definitely presence of a dragon :). btw - I have watched the Kenshin series over 20 times. :)

Moriya - My bad about the tatarigami. :)

Even older modules for 2e that anyone knows of would be appreciated. I am looking for anything that's out there.

Hum, I guess for that you'll have to go the fictional way and create it for yourself. ^^
As for the real world, war between clans has ended in 1600. (these wars were military confrontations, of course, with a lot of betrayal and such stuff involved). After that, Japan was united until the foreigners came and forced them to open their country for the outside world. And shortly after that event plays the Kenshin series, so it's set in the age of industrialization.
So, personally, I'd suggest, invent something. After all, you don't necessarily need to create *everything*, only that part the characters are immediately confronted with, and I suppose the rest should evolve from there. (at least it's always like this with my ideas - and I guess the creator of the Kenshin series didn't do much more either)
However, if you've gotten some questions, I can help, I think. I'm a lot into eastern history and culture, especially japan (well, majoring at university...), and I'm currently planning an entire japanese-style campaign. So for a certain problem, ok. I just wouldn't want to write 10-page essays from scratch. ^^

If you don't have any of the old modules, I think Wizards sells the old Oriental Adventures scenarios on their site as downloadable .pdf files (called ESDs) for about $5.

Some are even available for free here

I don't know how much help it will be for you, but I seem to remember (many years ago when OA first came out, sometime before 89 at least) that one of the first modules was set in Wa (part of Kara-tur). I want to say it was OA1 or 2, but would not bet any money on it.

Anyway, the "module" had a lot about clan in fighting, mostly by yakuza, but included a detailed section of plots, schemes, methods, and NPC's central to the above. It might be of some help to you.
