Sometimes, a traveller through the forest will hear a shrill voice telling him to turn back on the path, and will look up in the trees only to see a monkey. This is a sarusei - a monkey saint, a representative of Hanuman, the Monkey King. Sarusei resemble mundane monkeys or apes, but have unusually boldly colored fur, usually reddish. Found only in the most isolated forests and mountains, many of the more famous thieves and bandits are reputed to have gained their training at the feet of a sarusei. The spirits vigorously protect their mundane charges (monkeys and apes) and will gladly die in defense of their lesser kin. Most of the time, though, sarusei are content to live as their cousins, chattering away in trees
Manifestation (Su): A sarusei is incorporeal, and thus cannot affect or be affected by anything in the material world. A manifested sarusei can be attacked by both material and ethereal foes.

Possession (Su): A sarusei can inhabit the body of a creature on the material plane; this ability is like the magic jar spell cast at a level equal to the sarusei’s Hit Dice. The target can resist the attack with a successful Will save (DC 15+sarusei’s Cha modifier). Once successful, he is immune to further attempts from that particular sarusei for the rest of the day.

Speech (Ex): Sarusei may speak Rokugani in a high, chattery voice. It can communicate with monkeys (and apes, for major sarusei).

Skills: Sarusei gain a +8 racial bonus to Hide, Listen, Search, and Spot checks.
