Odd levels for fighters

Felon, for someone trying to preach about tone, your's isn't very exemplary. I'd practice what I preach if I were going to be as puffed up and arrogant as you. Jackass.

Name calling is not necessary. Be a little more civil please.

The trick is, how does one practice what one preaches yet manage to get a point across to someone like you who only values rudeness and crudeness?

Others have tried to be courteous and treat you as a peer, and for their efforts they have been treated to your own not-inconsiderable arrogance. "Don't try to rope me in?" Rope yourself in then.

If I opt to be rude and crude in return, then I'm a hypocrite. So I'm left talking to you like an adult talking to a child who doesn't know what manners are. Prove my assessment wrong.

Trust me, if I could keep this to PMs, I would.

I have no real interest in trading barbs with you, privately or publicly. Don't go away mad...just go away.

At every turn, I have been trying to bring the thread back in line with what the topic is about while trying to be as civil as I can to those who are trying to derail it into personal attacks.

I would suggest that we ignore the more indignant posts, as responding only seems to bring out more of the same.

Soooo, Fighters have levels without any special benefit... Any ideas for spicing up those boring levels?

I'm still dwelling on skill customization. If we run with the idea of focusing on the different types of backgrounds that can provide martial training, what do you get? How do you break down the different backgrounds so you get cavaliers from streetfighters? There's all different types of military backgrounds, and there are fighters who are less formally trained.

I like the skill points idea. 2 points on every odd level? Is that too much?

At 1st level the Fighter must choose a "profession" or "flavor focus" and from that select a number (4 or so) of skills that belong to that profession. Thereafter, at every odd level of fighter they get 2 skill points to spend on their profession's skills.

Note that cross-class skills remain cross-class.

How's that?

I agree, however, I would give full ranks in these skills. Just personal feelings on it.
A Samurai (caste, not class) would be trained in Ettiquete, Nobility, etc. And I am pretty sure he knows the Knowledge (nobility) at a top notch level of ability.

Usually good advice. Most trolls wander off after nobody takes the bait. Every once in a while, however, there's that self-assured troll that just keeps seeing how far he can push it. Since Barono has already been cocky enough to brush off a moderator's courteous reprisal, I think we have found such a troll. Them, you gotta show they're not nearly as clever as they think they are. Look how quickly he lost his cool.

I thought his advice was to ignore it, why drag on for another paragraph? No need to start calling him 'troll' or what-not after you just agreed to stop, or i'm assuming you agreeing with the advice to be the same.

About fighters, i've played one straight up until 23rd; still trecking. I'm loving it and never missed a thing in his progression.

The issue isn't that they're underpowered (although I'd dare say a barbarian outshines them in most respects). The topic I brought up has to do with those "dead-air" odd levels where they get nothing.

But that's the point. To get nothing at those levels. Does a Paladin deserve more abilties when he gets dead levels? Or a Ranger? Druid? Bard? There are other variants to spice up the fighter class (variants class builds, class specific PrC's, specific class feats). A fighter was built to grab a feat every other level because that is an extremely powerful and versatile spread. Perfect for a fighter. They need nothing more, really.

Adding skills, as suggested, is nice, but if the fighter was skillful you wouldn't need the rogue.

I'm in complete agreement about new fighter feat trees. Fighters can always use more feats. More epic fighter feats as well.

One small note: In each post, other than your own, you will see a small triangle. This triangle is the report post button. You simply wait for the new page to load, type in why, and send it on its way.

Don’t worry I already got post 73 Submitted.
