Official Superman Poster

FWIW, I thought Gunn's The Suicide Squad was "fine" in all "oh, man, I hope nobody ever says that about something I worked on" context that it conveys. Some things worked and were funny, other things fell flat. It was leaps and bounds better than Ayer's Suicide Squad, so it was seen by me as a win. But if I had to compare that to any of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, I'd say it was worse by a long shot compared to any of those.

Everytime I see..."Look Up" I'm reminded of another recent release that had don't look up.

Almost as if this was a prequel. I know it's not, but the movie byline is reminding me of another movie byline.

Teaser after teaser for what? It’s Superman. People are gonna watch the trailer.

Gunn has given us no reason to expect a good Superman, but he does seem to understand characters much better than Snyder does, so it should be better than the Snyder films.

I'm reminded of Neil DeGrasse Tyson's byline, 'keep looking up!'

I’ve never thought those crown scenes by extras or as Deadpool said…dayplayer :) ever looked believable…and the crowds in this one don’t look like they are looking at anything. Still I think this movie might be pretty dang good overall!

I mean honestly if Gunn can't make a good Superman film we might we give up and go home as regards most DC heroes/villains. But I hope and think he can.

I, honestly, am not sure Gunn was the man for this job.

Not that he doesn't know his way around an action movie - he's fine there. What he hasn't established is the ability to handle sincere characters well. The Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad are filled with characters who are emotionally broken, stunted, or tortured and the dialogue is all quips, sarcasm, and deflection from real emotion. Rocket can't even handle a moment of unity without noting how they're, "..a bunch of idiots, standing in a circle".

And don't get me wrong, that was funny.

But that's not Superman, the big blue boy scout.

I fear we are in for either an attempt at sincerity that can't lift itself out of smarminess, or a frantic action movie with lots of canon references but no heart. And we could use a Superman with heart these days.

It seems that Clarks portrayal is taking cues from Christopher Reeve and Superman is taking them from Snyder, which is going to be an interesting mix, lets hope they get the balance right. Especially so since Supes is being featured alongside other JL heroes

Its amusing the cited Gunns work on the Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy rather than Suicide Squad

good to see Mr Terrific being done some justice after his terrible CW treatment.
