Okay, where do you stand on diagonal movement?

What is your preferred system for diagnonal movement?

I'd just like to see where ENWorlders in general actually stand on this issue. I think I've included all the major viewpoints, but if you do choose something other than the first five options I've given, I'd like to hear what.

I suppose it's pointless to ask that the debate not spread into this thread too much, but if the mods prefer to keep it contained somewhere else I'll be happy to edit a link to another thread into this post to assist in that endeavour.

Just to clarify, by 1-2-2-2 I mean having your first diagonal each turn count as 1, but any subsequent ones count as 2. The other options should be self-explanatory, but ask if you need clarification on anything.

If "I could give two :):):):):), I'm just using the current rules the game was balanced around", I would choose that. I took 1-1-1-1 though.

If you'd asked me last week, I'd have said, "1-2-1-2 is a little annoying, but I don't really care"

After the 4e playtest I ran, my answer is, "1-1-1-1. Period."

Yeah, I'd really encourage people to actually try the various options out... as a math geek, I'd expect to be annoyed at 1-1-1-1, but I liked it so much better at the table.

My initial opinion:

I don't mind the concept. It increases playability at a small expense to believability. It doesn't bother me.

My final opinion:

I'll wait to see it in game. This is the part that bothers me, people have formed such a strong opinion on literally nothing. People who haven't played the new game, have seen only a fraction of the rules, are already making houserules and the like. I'll keep an open mind, and let the game show me the glory, or the horridness.

I don't do battle maps.

If I did, I'd stick with 1-2-1, because it makes sense. Any time lost is negligable in comparison to the headache I'd get trying to explain 1-1-1. I'd rather disallow diagonal movement completely than go with 1-1-1. "You want to move diagonally forward-right? Okay, first move forward. One space. Now move right. One space. There. Congrats."

But battle maps are icky, have cooties, and smell like butts.
