Old timers?

Since 2003, following the news about 3E, since I had recently started running 2E adventures for my friends via Java-based chat rooms (not recommended).

I, too, fear running afoul of Eric's grandmother.

I began to read Eric Noah's 3rd Edition News in 1999, and I quickly joined the forum, so yeah, I have been here for 23 years...
I feel so old now...
Haha, and I just crawled out of the ancient woodwork myself... @Horacio long time no see man! :D

also an originally Eric Noah's boardmember....

Hi Will!

Really longtime, my friend... 🥹

I was surprised reading this thread and seeing that a bunch of us, old timers from Eric's board, are still here.

It says something about a community when it keeps members for more than 20 years!

Oh, and Planescape forever, of course!

In a way this forum reminds me a bit like Sigil, it's the real life center of D&D multiverse, where people come and go as it remains for ages... 😉

Yeah, life takes us different directions, ups and downs... its a hell of an adventure! ;)

Yeah, noticed a bunch of familiar names in the thread, even if we didn't all directly interact... Good times... and nice to have a place like this.

So great to run into you and this thread.

At first I misread that as "old timers from Eric's band" but then realized hey, it's pretty much the same thing. :)

Indeed! A gang, a band, a closed knitted group of geeks hyped by the new D&D 3.0, the whole d20 explosion with all the new 3pp and the infinite possibilities open to us...

I took a while to get here. I was posting on rec.games.frp.misc in 1992, then was on the forge (not sure those dates), then rpg.net around 2005, and then enworld in 2008. That was about the time I started playing D&D regularly.
I remember being on usenet in the 1989-1991 era, including rec.games.frp.misc ... It took effort to follow the threads... I don't miss uselessnet all that much.

I was here early. I dont remember how early but I remember that this is my second account. Something happened with the site and I had to create this account. I know that I was around before 2002 because my son was born at the beginning of 2002 and I was on this site some time before that.

With all the talk of the OGL I just wanted to say that in those days this site was an AMAZING resource that I used to discover new products and help weed out the garbage and point me toward things that I would up either liking or loving. Until fairly recently I had a good amount of the books (physically) that I bought during that time. I was a BIG fan of Malhavoc Press, Necromancer Games, Frog God Games and Green Ronin (still am) and at the time the PDF boom was right up my alley.

I might be a rarity but I don't look at the d20 glut as a bad thing. Over time I think the garbage products mostly went away and the good stuff stayed in one form or another. I'm pretty sure that I first heard about Paizo's Age of Worms AP HERE on this site which prompted me to start picking up Dungeon regularly and even subscribing eventually. Something that in my years of reading it sporadically I'd never done before. This eventually led me to Pathfinder and away from here as this continued to focus more on D&D as it always had.

Still, I pop by every now and then to check in on an old acquaintance. It's nice to see it's still around even though my own involvement and activity is at a minimum.

I was reading probably starting in 2004 or so, my account was created 17 and 1/2 years ago in June 2005 when I had to post something or other. Then I left for like 15-16 years and came back last June when I started running D&D for my kids.

This thread reminds me that my username Reynard started with this board and is what I use across many different boards and platforms now. I don't even recall why I chose it, other than I like the foxy fairy tales.

I've definitely been around since the early Morrus days, which I think were the early oughts. Used to read the original EN message boards but do not remember if I actually commented. Participated a bunch on the Necromancer game boards also, back in the day. Weirdly, my account says I only joined in 2017, so perhaps I used to post under a different handle. The memory plays weird games as the years add up.
