Olympics Talk: A brief discussion before it goes away

Maybe it also has something to do with the 300,000 condoms they have at the village.
As I've said elsewhere, it's no surprise that when you gather all of the world's most physically fit people in the prime of their lives under some of the most intense pressure they'll ever feel, they're going to find a good way to blow off some steam, as it were.

This goes doubly (at least!) for non-straight athletes from countries where they don't like that. There's a reason why every four years there's two events that consistently shut down Grindr's servers; the Olympics and the RNC

A lot of the reporting on this looks a bit sensational (the articles themselves are often the ones mentioning her appearance but the official statement from the Paraguayan official didn't say anything about that). It is possible that it was that. this is mostly coming from the Daily Mail and TMZ and there seems to be a bit of editorializing in the reporting itself. I am curious what the case actually is. I could see a situation where someone who has already been disqualified and continues socializing with athletes could be an issue if it reduces their focus on the competition. You do want the team to be focused on the events. If the issue was she just looks good in a bathing suit, then yeah, I agree it is very stupid to kick her out. If it was more involved than that, like there was actual romantic drama going on or other issues that was taking away from the other athlete's focus, that might be a different story. One thing I have learned in the past month with the olympics is wait for all the facts to come in before getting forming an opinion

I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle - she's 20 and wanted to party, the Paraguay bosses didnt like that, so maybe "had a few words with her". She's also apparently a student in Texas and has made statements that she'd rather swim for the US than Paraguay

1. What is the least impressive event to you, in terms of someone saying, "I am an Olympian."

2. What is the coolest event that doesn't get all the press (not the 100m, or swimming, or gymnastics)?

3. Finally, what other thoughts do you have? I mean, other than learning that all the Olympic swimmers pee in the pool?
1. 40-year-old playboys playing with their ponies.

2. Since you're American, I'll assume my favorite event, judo, doesn't get much press in your eyes. It is extremely popular here in Brazil, though (we are the 5th country with the most Olympic medals in the sport - we're coming at you, Cuba!).

3. I live in the Rio de Janeiro Met area, and the Rio Olympics in 2016 were so fricking awesome.
(Love your posts!)

A dude from my hometown, Nanaimo BC, just won the gold for the most D&D of all sports, the hammer throw. I think that's awesome! And speaking of the Haka, my colleague's daughter is on the Canadian rugby team that earned the silver against that New Zealand squad - she only found out about a month ago that she made the final cut, and now she's an olympic medallist!
That's cool! The hammer throw is so cool...

The mayor of my hometown (Niterói, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is Axel Grael, the brother of Torben Grael and Lars Grael and uncle of Martine Grael. The Graels are terrific sailors, some of them Olympic medalists. Lars was two-time bronze, Torben had five (two-time gold, one silver, two bronze), and Martine had two (2-time gold). Oh, Axel is running for mayor again in the election later this year, and his vice-mayor will be Isabel Swan, who ALSO has an Olympic bronze medal in sailing.:ROFLMAO:

Woooo Canada just won the gold for the women's hammer throw, too! We're, like, the most hammered nation on earth!

Plus, tell me she doesn't look like a badass D&D character:

Tough loss for the Australian basketball team last night against Serbia.
Probably time to change the team nickname from 'The Boomers' to something else?

Still, Australia is coming 3rd in the overall medal tally at this point, which isn't too shabby.
It's around this time that the term 'per capita' starts to get a lot of use from the Australian media.

These athletes are really impressive but I so wish they would get rid of the sensors so the contact would be harder
