I mean, if people want to take a short rest and heal up a bit, maybe we could try to go deeper? Maybe these guys were the toughest things in the Keep (other than the inevitable boss battle)?

*shrug* Yeah, we're not that battered. But Tolan's mindset is sort of "If my sword can't cut it, I don't have another answer." Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to do about that.

At the risk of being too meta-gamey, I'm not even certain of their damage resistance in this addition. Previously you needed a magic weapon, but Tolan certainly doesn't know that. They've stripped out most of the monster knowledge type skills, so I don't know who would know either.

And even with that answer, this isn't 3.5, we can't scrape up 2k gold and go buy a +1 weapon.

Tolan will push on if you like, but one more weapon resistant encounter and he's going to have an existential crisis. :D

No, I get it. I'm not too sure of their resistances either. I know gargoyles traditionally have had resistance (or down-right immunity) to non-magic weapons in the past, so it does seem a little iffy that we're here and trying to go up against that... Granted, most of the rest of the party has the means to overcome their resistance (spells/pact blade).

Given the statutes, in a totally metagame perspective, we're also probably going to be dealing with something that can petrify us. That should be fun.

I'm down for pushing on first. There's got to be some humanoids up in this joint that are susceptible to Tolan's blade.

Existential crisis aside, I thought the fight was interesting for lots of reasons. First, we were successful. That's pretty good, especially considering among other things Carradoc's appalling to-hit rolls (sorry!).

Second, was the value of shoving. This was awesome, and it's something I've seen in face to face games, but not in pbp. Shoving is a great tactic, in that it gives both advantage to-hit and disadvantage for the enemy. In any combat against a big bad, it may make sense to have someone with strength no attack but shove.

Another tactic that we could have employed here is the helping action, which gives advantage to an ally's attack for free. That's not a waste of an action by any means (in my opinion), and it's something *I* want to remember to do more often. As I read it, the helper needs to be adjacent to the target, but the attacker doesn't (and so can be at range).

(Please know I am not criticizing anyone's participation here -- just recognizing that there were some great things in this fight, and that there are things we can learn from it that would work alongside the whittling-down approach.)

I think we can go on, and find a rhythm that works no matter what the opposition, but I won't push for it if others are uncertain.

Carradoc spends one die, healing [roll0]. EDIT: and so back to full.
