Totally up to you CM. I just picked one that I figured made sense with Bannocker's upbringing in the Dalelands. However, if forced to choose I would pick Spell Focus: Illusion as it fits his "natural talent" with illusion magic better than anything else.

I've been reading my FR books in my spare time and apparently what I thought was a Rules-As-Written rule was really just a house rule all my groups have been using. Not that we play FR often, but on the three or so occasions we have, that's how we have done it. I wouldn't miss the regional feat, but I wouldn't complain if you gave us one as a bonus feat either. :)

The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book was written well before most of the newer classes came along in books like Complete Warrior and such.

As such, the regional benefits are geared toward the standard classes.

With that in mind, what we could do is simply...

Regional Bonus Feat

You may choose a feat from your region as a bonus feat if it is preferred by your class OR you may choose a +2/+2 skill feat (such as Alertness or Stealthy) as a bonus feat.

yeah, I was out of names so I chose one from a "Book" I wrote in 5th grade with an elf-mage named Ishmael, I'll think up something else from my paladin, because I'll just make him a quiet and cryptic type instead of a strong hero of Torm.

I don't mean to sound like i am hacking on your name of your pc, I was just curious if the humor was lost as to the refrence.
