This thread is to discuss characters for a 5e game that I will be running over the summer.
@Snarf Zagyg @FitzTheRuke @Steve Gorak @Neurotic @Kobold Stew
I have room for, maybe, one more player.
In Game, the story takes place over a single night. This might influence your character build. I might give you one long rest...maybe...but overall, I want to keep the action moving.
We are using 5e2024 rules and I'm pretty flexible with the background feats/stat bonuses etc...
Player expectations:
As the title of the thread suggests, My hope is to start this weekend and to finish at the end of the summer: BY LABOUR DAY!!!!!
(I'm not sure this is even possible but I get super busy come September so we will do our best.)
Therefore:
-I want each player to post at least once a day***. (unless you're on vacation or something, in which case, I'll play your character while you're gone).
-I'm going to forge ahead, regardless of delays so, unless you give me notice of your absence, If there's a combat and you miss your day, your character will take dodge action.
Although, if you think that's too harsh, we can discuss alternative solutions before the game officially starts
**I will be camping at least two weekends this summer so I know it may be impossible to post every day.
Me as a GM:
-I use inspiration and I like using it "declaration" style to establish facts on the scene. (like FATE points) (NPC connections, interesting details during a combat etc..) As long as it's not too far fetched.
-I've never GM'd 5e 2024 (there will be a learning curve)
-I like brutal combats and will try to keep this as fast-paced as possible. That said, my impression is 5e 2024 characters are pretty tough so I don't think there will be any need to min/max. Play whatever brings you joy!
-I use Passive Perception and stuff. It makes it easier in a PBP because I don't need to wait on players to roll stuff. I use passive Knowledge checks too.
-I'm generally disorganized so, to help me, I have a 'posting format' It is as follows:
GM POSTS
The top of the Post Will have an OOC spoiler that contains all the info from previous rounds - like NPC saving throws from player actions and what-not. Basically, resolving anything that happened in previous posts
Body of the post: the narrative fluff
Bottom of Post: Will be all the actions for that post. So any enemy attacks, saves or checks required by the players etc...
Summary: If you want to know what just happened, look at the top of the post. If you want to know what you have to do next, look at the bottom of the post.
Player Posts
As I mentioned, I'm pretty disorganized and don't, generally, keep track of your stats or HP or abilities. So, to help me out, please keep a mini-sheet at the top of each of your posts where you can track that stuff. It helps remind me of your character and I don't have to have the RG open or have a separate document. I also like the looks of having the character's name at the top of each post. I find it especially useful if there's a big lull in the game and people forget whether they used HD during a short rest or any other abilities....not that there will be a lull in the game.... ... ...
Make it as complicated or as simple as you like. You've seen them on all of my IC player posts so if you want to copy/paste one of mine, see below. When I post, I just 'reply' to my own post, remove the 'quotes' and change the body of my post, keeping the mini-sheet.
OOC Stuff: put rolls and comments at the bottom of your post. I prefer spoiler tags because I think it looks nicer but I'm not a stickler for it.
