[OOC] Horror High - Freshman Year

Hope it helps! Francis is looking at Weapon Finesse and Combat Martial Arts at some point, plus whatever ways werewolfism impacts her as we go along. Wasn't Juno going to pick up archaic weapons at some point, as well? As a Slayer prereq or something? So the differences should become more prominent there after a couple levels.

Does Juno do sports, by the way? I presume Tasha doesn't, Janice is graduated, and Francis won't. But I don't remember what you mentioned as Juno's hobbies.

Juno's got combat martial arts and brawl already. She's worrying her family with talk of doing MMA for a living. :)

She will be picking up Archaic Weapons too, as the class does require it. It doesn't really make any sense for her, but...what can ya do? :)

Juno's all about the sports. Physical activity is how she works her stress out, and she's super competitive. :)

Janice is going "tank", if that means anything. Her focus is defense and resilience, possibly working towards the Bodyguard class (Hence the Armor proficiency [cop vests] and the High hit points). She's equally capable with gun or nightstick; Kung-Fu or Brawl (or fighting at all, really) isn't her focus.

That said, I put a lot of points into Int skills and I'm likely taking at least 1 level of Smart to reflect her shift to Investigation (as she gets hopefully promoted to Detective). Right now, she's a simple small-town cop.

Yes, "mechanically", it would have been smarter (heh) to start with the Smart class for the bonus skill points, but whatever, I'm letting the story describe the character and tacking on what fits after the fact.

It's hard to do, but if you can separate the D&D class-thinking from your characters and think about who they are and what they've learned at this stage in their life, you may find some avenues of advancement you never even thought of.

That said, we don't have a "people person" or a "techie" represented as yet.

Also, consider this: If everyone is playing high school athletic, physical types, might you consider agreeing on a sport and being on the same school team? Super-easy way to meet everyone and has camaraderie (and drama!) built-in (ex. the tv series 'Friday Night Lights' [football] or 'One Tree Hill' [basketball]).

Hey, maybe you can teach me! You know, after the pressing need becomes apparent. It won't be for a while that I can pick up any advanced combat feats.

Nice thing about this system is how much development you do level-to-level, between skill ranks and all the feats, bonus feats, and class feature options. I feel like I can pick up or refine a character focus at a later level and still have it work out.

Role-wise, I envisioned Francis being good at noticing (by hearing, or smelling, at least) baddies and tracking them down, and having the defenses to survive if they catch on to her. I could improve her Spot and Search later on, and/or Move Silently and Hide to be more of a spy. Maybe also Knowledge (arcane) to represent her growing knowledge of folk remedies and "cryptids"; Sense Motive to notice things disguised as human would have a similar effect. Maybe theology/philosophy, but mostly theology, if it has any relevance to the things we're facing.

In combat she's mostly defensive, but can pick up a lot of offense later on with weapon finesse, two-weapon fighting, etc. I'd kind of like her to be a non-combat specialist though, clearly able to defend herself but reluctant to fight...except when she's "not feeling like herself"... ψ(`∇´)ψ

Edit: joining a sports team would leave Tasha out I think, so it wouldn't be my first choice. (Though I vote baseball, then volleyball, then roller derby. Are co-ed sports teams a thing there?) I was also thinking...I don't know how club formation works exactly, but maybe Juno and Francis start a club to hide gang-related activities, naming it something no high school student would ever join, like "Finance Law Club," which Owen joins because he needs extracurriculars and it sounded like nap time, and Tasha joins because she's actually interested in whatever it is. (Or, something.) And Janice could come by because her sister would never join something like that so it must be a ruse. Then bang, we're all in one room, and we either become the Breakfast Club or something's breakfast.

Oh, we could call it the Breakfast Club. Or the Scooby Club.

What, no Kendo club? ^_^

"I am the undefeated captain of this school's kendo club. The rising new star of the high school fencing world. The sound of my voice strikes fear into the hearts of my enemies. My peers call me the Blue Thunder of Furinkan High... Tatewaki Kuno, age 17."

OH GAHD, what about Glee club?!

Niche-wise, Tasha is going to be developing into (more of a) "people person" as her abilities grow- 2nd level will be Charismatic, to start. She may not understand WHY this is happening (She certainly won't understand the Charm- males talent, or like it vey much, but there it is...)

At this point, early development will be a roughly even mix of Ally Sheedy and Molly Ringwald. You all can sort out the Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez parts yourselves...

;)

Hah! You know, that's not a bad idea? I mean, it's not something she'd jump at just on her own...but if someone else were involved and doing well she'd instantly have an urge to show she could do BETTER. :)

We can worry about clubs and such later. Remember, the game starts on the first day of school. ;)

IC thread will be arriving later today after I take one more read-through of all the characters.
