{OOC, please move} Questions

Umm... ok, I'm hoping this isn't disrupting anything but I have a few questions about running a PbP and, well, this seems like the forum to ask them in...

Firstly, is one allowed to have a second nick for use solely as a character in a PbP game here?

Secondly, can I have two seperate threads, one for the game and one for OOC discussion?

Thirdly, is it possible to get a higher order of permissions to enable editing of threads in this forum alone so as to be able to monitor and control the game more effectively as a DM?

You should read the Play By Post FAQ at the top for answers to any questions you have. Its also a good place to ask questions and get answers.

1. Yes
2. Yes, you post the OOC thread in another forum called "Talking the Talk"
3. Well you can already edit your own posts, are you talking about editing your player's posts? I don't think players would like that. If you want your players to change something, asking them to do so would work just fine. :)

1) Yes, it's not too common anymore, but originally it was the basis for playing.

2) Yes, that's standard around here. Posts like this one are considered Out Of Character, and go in the "Talking the Talk" forum. Threads that are In Character go in the "Playing the Game" Forum. Threads that are OOC in this forum will be moved in mass shortly.

3) I do believe the only way to do that is by being a Forum Leader. We have yet to have one, and although I'd like to see a little more authority for DMs, we can't have every DM be given that authority. Instead, any changes you want require you to email a moderator (like Darkness, Dinkledog, or Piratecat, those are the three people with the appropriate power that pass by IC most often). If we ever have a forum leader, they will be able to perform more of these things with less hassle.

As for what it's worth, if we could have two, they could split the games up and then the whole forum could be handled personally. There's been mentions up and down Meta about it, and I know that Myself, Sollir, and GaryH have all had name-drops by other people, but nothing has been said on the matter other than 'the best way to not-become a forum-leader is to say you want to be one', and that's the crux of the matter.

Yes, the PbP FAQ at the top, although it needs an update, would accurately answer the first two questions of yours. And, as for Kitana's number 3, I assumed that's not what your talking about. Are you talking about moving posts from IC to OOC, and closing finished threads, or are you talking about editing player posts? I don't think there has ever been a player that refused to change his/her post when asked, and I doubt any DM has even had to ask more than once with a particular player.

Oops... sorry. I did read briefly through the FAQ but I was tired so I must've missed things like this.

Well... there's asking and then there's asking. I think, in this case, the asking would be legit.

Oh no, this change is less than 25 minutes ago, and GaryH runs the FAQ, I don't. It will be changed to reflect the forum changes shortly, I'm sure of that. You missed that which wasn't there :p.[/quote][/b]

Yeah, I agree with you. It is peculiar, however, how those particular posts in Meta were overlooked. Some strange faux pas (is that right, or is it something else. I don't know French...).

Heh, cool, I love it when things are moving and shaking. Change, change, change, love it.

Anyway, I was wondering if I could get some feedback on these rules I've made up for my PBP. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to compile it as a general PBP guide for everyone to use, although having said that, I'm guessing someone, somewhere has already done so, so feel free to point me there! :)

Alright, read the entire thing. Those are your rules for your game, and that's absolutely fine. They keep an interesting context for your game, and the stat-block in the signature line is a nice cushion to prevent the need for a Rogues Gallery. You do know we use the Rogues gallery, right? It's a forum where each game in the IC forum (each, but not every) posts their completed characters.

In my game, we use different colors for different languages, and we don't worry about Avatars, sigs, or Screen names. In general, one reason why most people don't have multiple nicks (unless they play in Iconics, which is a different case), because they play in as many as 20+ games (see GaryH on that one). Your work is applicable for you (and hey, I'm interested in playing in your game), but it's not universal.

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but since it's already being discussed here...

creamsteak, I think the Forum Leaders are a great idea. I was actually thinking about suggesting that IC should have it's own Moderators over in the other thread in Meta. Personally I would have liked to have a little more discussion before changing the forum, but I can see how that might not be as practical for the mods when they have to police so many forums.

I think one (or preferably several) leaders, mods, or what-have-you elevated directly from our own ranks would both free the current mods from the hassle of worrying about our own little quickly growing section of ENWorld and at the same time give the IC-community input into our forum. You or Gary (again, preferably both) would be perfect choices, IMO (I don't really know much of Sollir other than the name so I can't really comment there).

Maybe we should start a thread in OOC to talk about this and see if there's any other interest? If there is we can try organizing a 'petition' thread over in Meta and see if it gets some response.
