oh, my poor little dwarven barbarian. we were fighting swordwraiths, and that !@#*!@#* bastard that still had only 1 hit point left managed to get in a good shot and finished her off. the party will try to resurrect her, but the DM hinted that it's more trouble than it's worth.

so, i get to make a new 4th level character. most of my characters have been over the top wacky lately, so i'd like to try something a bit more serious (which will undoubtedly devolve into over the top wacky within 3 sessions, i know, i know...) i like basic character classes, so maybe a wizard or a bard? maybe a plain old human fighter? oooh i know, a gnome? ;)

Oo Oo do like me: Gnome Necromancer, opposed school: Illusion.

(I think I'm in the mood for something dark because of my first and next suggestion):

A human bard, but excessively sorrowful and sombre. His/Her (going to use the masculine form for simplicity) music is quite weeping and depressing. Perhaps he has a good reason for being such. His actions will expose a self-destructive nature (not suicidal, but close).

Try playing a Human Expert. It's a challenge and would have to depend on the level of roleplaying that exists in your DM's campaign, but it might be a nice change for you.

Human fighter who believes that anything is a weapon. Doesn't have a favorite sword, will use anything sharp, pointy, heavy, or blunt as a weapon. Take the Throw Anything feat and lots of EWPs, and occasionally throw the party halfling into the fray. Play him as being expedient and willing to do whatever it takes to get to the goal at hand. :)

Do it! Play a Gnome Bard!

3.5e Bards are very cool, and they've got a great spell list. Take Suggestion as one of your 2nd level spells. It's great in many situations... especially if you intend to go over the top.

Dwarven Monk! Become a grapple-master and you'll instantly become the halfling rogue's best friend! (As a fellow halfling rogue, I know I could use one to play with!)

I am considering a Dwarven Monk for my next character (when the time comes). A character that is total support. Doesn't necessarily deal the damage, but makes it easier for everyone else to do so by tripping, stunning, grappling and so on...

My first 3.0 character was a gnome cleric, who also had a few levels of illusionist to get mirror image and blur. He was awesome.

Next character was a female sorcerer focusing on enchantment spells - super high charisma, suggestion, charm, all that kind of stuff. Pretty potent in the right situation.

The next character I play will be a toss up. I want to try a halfling druid. But I also want to play another female sorcerer based on cold-based spells.
