He's a neat paladin, but he's still getting himself killed in a lawful stupid way.

I think Lawful Stupid is a bit harsh. Lawful Dim, perhaps. Self sacrifice is sometimes necessary. And not fearing for one's life - or fearing, but still willing to do what needs to be done - is brave, not stupid. In fact, I'd say if O-Chul believed he'd get out just fine would make him stupid.

O-Chul is no match for Team Evil. But, if O-Chul can play decoy long enough for V to escape, then V can bring in the Group, and the Group can stop Team Evil.

Additionally, O-Chul's sacrifice would be a strong push to get MItB to Do the Right Thing.

I don't think he's being lawful stupid. I think he's measured his chances, and is taking the best foreseeable opportunity. If he can save V, the elf may be able to get them both out of there (not likely, unfortunately, but O-Chul doesn't know V just lost the ability to telport). If not, then he will likely die; but, he will die fighting evil, as any samurai-esque paladin would want to die, and (most importantly) he will die imparting one last lesson to the CID -- one that will, with luck, impel CID to switch sides and take action. If he does nothing, and V dies, the O-Chul will likely eventually be killed anyway, with little gained.

And if CID jumps in soon enough, then O-Chul might still have a chance at surviving.

BTW, holy sword works on any melee weapon, and has only V,S components. +5 holy bar, anyone?

Doubt he can cast it.

O-Chul has said before that he took a lot of levels of Fighter before he became a Paladin.

I'm continually amazed at Burlew's ability to make me care about, and empathize with, stick figures.

And the way he manages to shows emotions and concerns with poorly drawn comic characters is simply outstanding.

Here's to hoping the Monster in the Darkness kills all the hobgoblins and becomes a paladin ::crosses fingers::

ok, now I'm feeling really left out in some way.

I click the link above I get a page not found error,
I go to my RSS reader see OOTS 654, click the link, page not found,

I go to Giant In the Playground Games works fine, no mention at all of a 654, click latest comic, it takes me to 653, the sidebar says 653, but everyone on the forum is talking about 654.

I've feeling very punked.
