Opinions, 3 dragons dead.

Reaper as I have told you before, you opinion means didly squat to me, especially when delivered like that.
how... scathing and effectively emasculating? ;)

edit: wait a minute... have you posted an absurdly bad campaign tale before that i've pointed out your mistakes in?

Since you don't want feedback from Reapersaurus, perhaps I might step in instead.

Just some things I noticed:

An 8th level level wizard is supposed to have (by the book) 27,000-36,000 gp worth of gear. Those rings of wizardry of his (I, II and III) have a base price of 20,000, 40,000 and 70,000 gp respectively. This guy has about 3.5 times as much treasure in those rings alone as he should have, for a regular campaign.

The 1-into-3 spell brings back bad memories of the darts of the hornet's nest from the Gold Box CRPGs. But this is alleviated somewhat by the fact the ranger only has +2 arrows (with a 9th level cleric in the party, he could have +3 via greater magic weapon -- not wonderful minmaxing there).

Protection from elements only protects up to 12 points of damage per caster level, after which it's dispelled. An 8th level wizard means 96 points worth. A 10d8 lightning bolt every 1d4 rounds should eat that up fairly quickly.

How on earth is the wizard managing to damage blue dragons with lightning bolts? And what caster level is that wand? If it's caster level 1, that would be doing 1d4+1 points per charge, with a max range of 110 feet.

Did you remember to give the dragons the right number of feats for their size? A young adult blue has 18 HD, which gives it 5 feats. I would have taken Snatch, Flyby Attack, Power Attack and a couple of others.

When it's all said and done, however, the important thing is whether your group had fun. You're saying they did; in that case, great! No matter what anyone else thinks, you did your job. However, I wouldn't try looking for validation for your dragon tactics, or for support that your group wasn't overpowered. The dragons were stupid, and your group sounds way too rich for its level. I wouldn't trumpet the fact that they trashed these dragons, if I was you.

Ay caramba!

...and the mage shooting lightning bolt or MM from a wand...

Guess everyone else covered whatever needed to be said about this little adventure, but I couldn't resist the above. The mage was shooting lightning bolts at a blue dragon?

Gotta agree with all the comments, especially from Reaper and Hong....
Wheres BADD at to comment.. ;)

Seriously I hate seeing Dragons treated this way too, I've been DMing for about 20 years now adn had about 4 dragons in my campaigns the whole time, and 1 of them was friendly, yet still I manage to induce fear in the players at the very thought of a dragon encounter....

Well, you know, even the B.A.D.D can't do everything. If a DM is willing to sacrifice his dragons in mindless slaughter we can't help.

The healing process must begin from within the DM in question. One must want to make most of his dragons. He must start by saying: "Hi, I'm a DM, and I've disposed dragons."

Only then can we help.

;)

Ok, first this is not not a troll.

LOL! I didn't catch that! :D :D

Heh heh heh.

Yeah, from wizard having three rings of wizardry to the rogue using bladed gauntlets to score massive crits (even though the threat range has been long a part of errata) to the wizard using lightning bolts on a blue dragon, this MUST be a troll.

Either that or the worst run campaign in history.

In any case, I let my worries and anxieties slide off of me. I really have to learn to take things less to heart.... :D

... and the archer would take some hit, the stone skin taking most, and then take a five foot step and fire off four more arrows getting another +1 for Point Blank Shot...

Did you use the reach of the dragon, the Archer would be at the receiving end of a AoO when he fired from within the reach.

Ya.
Did these dragons get trucked into your adventure in a short bus?

Wowie! I'm going to have to remember that one!

I'll avoid piling on . . . and simply say this:

DMs need to resist the urge to employ the The Bad Guys are going to fight to the death because they're really mad. And they think that no Puny Adventurers could beat them. Yeah, that's it. "tactic". Especially when it comes to dragons.

It's easy, and lazy, and the Bad Guys deserve better.

DM'ing opponents that think, and plan, and that can flee and regroup, is tough work, I know. And maybe you and your players prefer a campaign that is a powergaming dungeon crawl where every opponent fights to the death, just because it's easier to keep track of everything. Fine.

But *don't* share such exploits on these boards without expecting some indignation, frustration, and annoyance. Especially if these exploits involve dragons :).
