Is this meant to be under a 4e tag? If it is then I'll just say that my first 4e game featured a Storm Sorcerer from Paragon tier through Epic (the player who played the Druid in my second game). That character was inspired by Storm of the X-Men and was absolutely awesome. Wind-riding, goddess of thunder and lightning she was. The Dragon Sorcerer in 4e was just as awesome.

I've got a bitchin' tabaxi cosmic sorcerer in my epic 4e game who has taken control of a moon as part of his epic destiny. :)

I'm not seeing much awesome here but I suspect that the designers would say that this is just a mobile chassis to deliver the various awesome through Sorcerous Origin.

Who knows?

I suspect you're right that the Sorcerous Origin will deliver a lot of the sorcerer's awesomeness in 5e. I so can't wait to get my PH. Still almost a month away. Aargh.

On the contrary, there is a lot of data here to inform an opinion as to how dynamic or interesting this class might be. This looks to pretty much just be a Pathfinder Sorcerer (which of course is a slightly more interesting 3.x Sorcerer with Bloodline Features) with a spellcasting pool system that rations your power. The Metamagic aspect is going to be just the typical d20 deal of expand/maximize et al. No armor. d6 HD.

You assume.

The flavor's the flavor, but we don't actually have much in the way of mechanics to judge how the sorcerer is different besides number of spells. "Sorcerous Points" are listed but we don't know how they work. So at this point the sorcerer looks like a wizard with different fluff and a different spell chart. We know the sorcerer is supposed to have larger differences, though ... so I'm reserving judgment until we have more information.

In other words, as I stated before: insufficient data.

Also, a bit of an odd duck with the previously stated ethos of "pick your subclass at 3rd level" (unless they've abandoned it...which wouldn't be a surprise as the design ethos has seen its fair share of rearrangement throughout the process).

Only as odd as the Cleric. ;o)

That is just plain awesome. Darth Vader is envious.

Its a pretty great class if done right. Hopefully they'll meet your expectations!

I'd call it scientific wild ass guess or "informed speculation". Do you really think any of those thoughts I outlined are not the most plausible and reasonable extrapolations from that snippet? I'd be surprised if they're far from the mark.

Also a bit of an odd duck :p

I actually think the Fighter with its semi-sub-class Fighting Styles at level 1 and the Warlock with its semi-sub-class patron type at level 1 are odder.

Although the closed play test Ranger was the oddest of the lot. Semi-sub-class Favored Enemy at level 1, semi-sub-class Fighting Styles at level 2 and actual Sub-class at level 3.

Anyone who answers this poll or makes an opinion other than "I'll have to wait and see" is making a horribly misinformed opinion, seeing as how none of us have seen the final abilities unique to that class. Therefore making a comparison to a wizard (the class we have seen) is flawed from the get go.
We can still make an educated guess based on the names of the abilities, but much of the table is plain to see without explanation. Sorcerers have more spells per day, equal or fewer spells known than wizards have spells prepared, and are not a full spell level behind in gaining access to new spells.

The unknown abilities would have to be really, really terrible in order to make this a class I wouldn't like.

Hrmm...I guessed I missed the memo that nixed the whole "you pick your subclass at level 3" tenet that was put forth as a (I thought) class design cornerstone in L&L (or wherever it was)!

Can't really answer the poll. There's no "I don't care (and I hate the class on principle)."

Saying "I'm neutral (and hate the class on principle)" seems to still insinuate that "while i hate the class, I don't hate -or feel strongly one way or the other- about what is presented"...which I don't, there's nothing wrong with what's presented. It's the fact it's presented at all is my beef.

...and saying "I don't care/lemon pie" seems to insinuate I don't care about the class at all or that, specifically, I do not hate the class on principle...which I do.

But hope those who do like the sorcerer class are enjoying what we've seen so far.

Wow, and I thought that last option was redundant, mm sorry will try to add that option on the poll once we have the phb in September. To be fair I wieghted down the possibility of adding something along the lines "The thing is wasted ink/space", but I thought a less extreme version ("i don't like it/I hate it") would be more inclusive
