I've recently completely five transactions.
1. Otherworld Miniatures. Owner put out a call that he was sick but to please order and not stop ordering because he would keep the minis flowing. I'd been wanting to do some pig faced orcs for a while so figured to hell with it. Very quick service and with the low pound versus us dollar not a bad deal.
2. Heresy was having a tax problem and doing a sale at the same time. I wanted some of the ghouls and bases for the pig faced orcs. Once again, quick service and full order received.
3. Hasselfree miniatures another overseas company that I figured, better take advantage of the low rates. No, no noble purchases here. Got the order and was like, "Aw man, I'm missing one of the transparnecy bases and got one figure twice that I didn't want." Went through everything very carefully and low and behold, the transparency base was there, just, you know, difficult to see since it was transparent. And the figure I got twice? Well, wasn't a screw up, but they just listed him twice. As it was a cool figure and they said it wouldn't be a problem to ship it back for a refund, I decided to keep it. Customer service was quick and responsive and didnt' try to blame me for any potential problems.
Okay, now onto the stores. I'm leaving the names off but if you want them, send me a private e-mail.
1. Store is having a sale. Store has provided okay service in the past. Make an order for over $100 bones to get the discount on shipping. Make the order with higher shipping priority. One thing I don't notice. My address in their system is wrong. I don't notice it because I've ordered from them several times using this incorrect address and received my goods with no problem. Well, days pass and no order. Contact the company. Let us know if it doesn't get there by next week. Contact them again. Oh yeah, it came back. Wrong address. We'll ship it out again but you'll have to pay for shipping. Uh.... no thank you, give me a refund. Refund given but not for the shipping. As a matter of fact, the shipping discount for cracking the $100 ceiling isn't applied. They then inform me that it's the standard policy when it's not their fault to charge you for the shipping. I copy the entire text of the company's store policies and lo and behold, it's simply not there. So I get a full refund on the shipping and everything is peachy. Now to me, that's okay service with a lot of hassle. In my humble opinion, they should've just sent the order out again. They wound up eating the shipping costs anyway so it wouldn't have cost them anyway. I could be 100% wrong about that but they would've had less time spend on dealing with an irrate customer and more time shipping product.
2. First time I order from store, they send me the wrong figure. Now when this happened with Fantization and pretty much every other online store I've dealt with, they go, "Hey, sorry we screwed up, keep that figure and we'll send out the right one right away." This one they seem to smirk and say, "Yeah, right. I'll tell you what, send it back and we'll ship out the right one." So I do and make them pay the shippng and handlling. Lo and behold, they did send out the wrong figure and then send out the right one. So already I've got it in my head.... don't order from them again. But Spyglass isn't redoing most of their figures and going to all resin and blah blah blah. So I put in an order and tell 'em, if part of the order doesn't ship, cancel it. Get reply back that everything is in stock and that it's on the way. Get the package and what happens? Charged full price and one figure, the limited edition one that I placed the order for in the first place, is missing. Store isn't ultra quick in getting back to me and since I'm already annoyed at the company for the first order and now this order... we'll, I'm trying to work things out.
At the end of the day, I'm getting to the point where even if it's more convienent to order these weird figures that Games Plus and Black Sun don't carry, that instead of going to an online store, I should just order directly from the manufacturer. Sure, I can't get multiple companies product and the s&h may be an issue (but it hasn't) and I do worry about the whole overseas bit (many years ago Foundry lost TWO $300 orders but quickly refunded me) but the frustration of having to hear excuse after excuse is annoying.
I am alone in this?
