the World Cup of Surprises.

I'm with Aggemam, Denmark is going to pull a 'huttelihut' this year i am sure.

But that aside, i think its really good too see all the surprises this year. All is open, hard to predict what will happen. Like that!

Congrats goes out to Japan and Korea for what until now has been a very nice Cup.

And go US, nicely done against Portugal :D

Stupid Americian alert. :)

Sorry for what seems to be a basic question, but what is a cap? When they lkist the stats of the players during the prodcasts they list name, caps, internationa goals, and place of residence or birth. I haven't been able to figure out what a cap is.

Caps is simply how many games the player has played for the national team.

FACT OR FICTION?
And if I try to pull things out of my memory and try to separate fact from fiction, I think the word came from the cap players got to wear when they travelled with the national squad - back in the days...

The only thing the WC still needs is fair play towards the small nations. The big nations can practically choose their own schedule (notably Germany who get to play 3 games at 20:30 local time - not bothered by the terrible heat) because of the commercial interest of the broadcasting companies and their "big markets". Our coach was right when he told FIFA to remove all their Fair Play banners from the cup - they have nothing to do with the truth....

The whole idea of FIFA and Fair Play appearing in the same sentence is laughable to start with. They are a spectacularly corrupt organisation, and Sepp (self-censorship begins here). Mr Federline's next port of call for employment?

Sinclair was a very fine surprise off the bench

Too right, Bronze Dragon, especially to us! I'd been slagging him off to anyone who will listen. Sorry, Trev!

Congrats Japan!

But I would like to point out that the WC doesn't purely grant benefits to more popular teams...
Germany is a favorite even among those. Except for EURO 2000 I can't remember Germany having a really hard group for elimination rounds in European Cup or World Cup these past years...
We have good schedules, a good bracket, we got the WC in a 5-4 mysterious voting, and we voted for Blatter to remain president of Fifa no matter what form of corruption he stands for.

I'm not saying we are the only ones, but I'm saying that sport politics are not so different to general politics...

Remember the IOC and Winter Olympics in SLC.

And the US fights to a furious 1-1 draw with S. Korea. Really could easily have been a win for Korea but the US defense was so tough.

Portugal should pick up the win over Poland, but if they only manage a draw they'll be in trouble.

I'm holding my breath for this final week of the group stage. Germany, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, and France all face elimination before the last 16!!! Personally, I hope at least 3 of these will be eliminated - but for the sake of peace I won't mention any names :D.....

It would be good for world football to see a few big nations crash at the roadside.
