Whoa whoa whoa. He's my little brother, not my son. I want him to do well, but it's no skin off my back if he doesn't. I'm not the lecturing sort of brother. I'm the "buys you condoms as a gag" kind of brother.

Not you, dad. (I knew there was a reason for that hollow sound I heard when I rapped my knuckles on his forehead.) Or you could ask mom to do it, if you were feeling really cruel.:D

Hey Wrangler.. where'd u get the ammo can?

DC

Berkeley Surplus, up here in Berzerkley. Man, I love that place. Only 14 bucks for a box roughly 12"x6"x8"! Holds a ton.

Actually, I got about half the stuff there. Surplus stores rule! I'll have to see if there's one in the San Diego area that I can send my brother to.

Okay, a quick check of the local yellow pages found a few kinda close to State.

Bargain Center
3015 North Park Way San Diego
619-295-1181

G I Joe's Basement
No address listed
619-531-1944

G I Joe's Army & Navy Surplus
544 6th Ave San Diego
619-531-1910
799 El Cajon Blvd El Cajon
619-401-7589

Stars and Stripes Surplus Store
1220 Broadway El Cajon
619-442-3800

A Yahoo map search should find all the above no problem. The ones with street adresses that is.:)

Due to State's placement, the El Cajon locations will likely be closer. El Cajon being east of San Diego, just pass the city of La Mesa.

If driving he should avoid I8 east from the State area during rush hour, or when classes are getting out. By his sophomore year the Mission Valley trolley line might be running all the way through to El Cajon, but he shouldn't count on it.

Hope this helps.

200 count box of plastic sporks.

I'd have stayed in college if only I'd had a 200 count box of plastic sporks.

Thanks Mythusmage! I'll pass those along.

So far, the surplus store is doing a lot better than Amazon. I had to cancel the Leatherman because they delayed it until the first or second week of Sept. Sorry, need it by Monday...

Leatherman multitools are sold all over the place at camping/outdoor recreation stores. I'm not sure what stores are near you, but there is probably one nearby. Here on the east coast, some of the big chains are Blue Ridge Mountain Sports & Eastern Mountain Sports. You can find them at most general sporting goods stores as well.

For what it's worth, I prefer the Multi-plier by Gerber. I wore one for years when I was in the printing business. It just seemed sturdier than the Leatherman.

Now that I'm a "professional" I feel awkward wearing it around on the hip of my Dockers. But I still keep a plastic spork in my pocket for emergencies. ;)
