Simple words with no back-up. And you ARE armchair quarterbacking. Raising your child does not allow you full knowledge of this situation anymore than my rasing my child let's me know about yours. If I started telling you what to do with your kid, I am quiet certain your opinion would change very rapidly.

If you think that locking a kid in a room is going to make them have a change of view, you are smoking something.

I am not claiming that other solutions may not exist. Certainly different families can have very different solutions to the same general problem. But we are not talking theory here. We are talking about an approach that was taken and DID work. How can you possibly second guess that?

Coward? Are you brave enough to spend an extended period away from yoru child so that they will be better off? Maybe you are? But if you had to do that, I bet it would really anger you to be called a coward for makign that level of sacrifice.

I don't think it's narrow at all, although I can see how you would think so as my initial post was typed while I was a bit emotional.

And no, I don't think my parenting methodology is the only "correct" way, but I find the assertion that society being what it is in this day and age should be an excuse not to actively engage your child and take a stand contrary to what is popular or what is easy.

I'm really sincerely sorry if I offended you guys though. I really do have a lot of respect for the people who post here, but as you know, some things just hit a nerve with some people.

If you have read anything by Stein, which your "pseudo-intellectual" quip clearly demonstrates to be not the case, you would be aware that he has strongly supported the exact opposite of what you absurdly claim.

Not that I expect any evidence or relenting from you.

When did I ever say they have no responsibility?

I have said that the proposed solution that he used is an acceptable means of taking responsibility.
