go mountain man!

is it just me or do you find yourself wondering if biting a big chunk out of the guy smoking in the restaurant booth beside you would count as nicotine intake? or possibly subside your craving?

looking forward to purchasing your new adventure!

I quit smoking cigarettes a long time ago. Sometime in the early 80's, without revealing too much of my age. As a young man growing up in a ranching and farming community, I was lured to the "chewing tobacco" alternative.

For the next twenty years I quit on and off, but chewing tobacco is FAR more addictive than smoking. I'd quit for a few months, start up again, usually based on an excuse of how stressful my work was. Bollocks, it's all about the addiction. A friend of mine and I spent hours talking about it. Sometimes chewing gum will make you miss the craving. Smelling the raw tobacco will make the small hairs on the back of your neck stand up in desire.

In June I quit for the -- I hope -- final time. Right after that I had a severe allergic reaction to an OTC pain cream and was given prednisone. Some people get psychotic mood swings on prednisone. I'd be one of those people. Coupled with the nicotine cravings I was a menace to society but I didn't succumb to the temptation and you shouldn't either. Hang in there.

PS: Yes, I still smoke cigars, and have no plans to quit them. Damn me and my double standards.

Go, alsih20 and all you others, go! Go!

My father smoked for decades, and quit two or three years ago, cold turkey. I'm so proud of him; I'm most proud of a certain feat of willpower he displayed.

One Christmas, he wrecked our car. Someone crossed in front of him in a dysfunctional junction and he ran right into them. He wasn't hurt (much), but he'd just quit. The thing is, no matter how stressful the experience, he didn't have a cig!

You can do it! Nicorette can't help!

TWK
[something something... curse my trick memory!]
I'll have another cigarette
And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid git!

Uncle Buck! (the movie)

I am SOOOO glad I've never felt the urge to smoke. However, I remember at the gaming table, we'd roleplay for a while and everything would be cool. But when combat started, the sticks would burn! After a huge battle, the living room would look like a bar room. Now we game at a non-smoker's apartment. The game grinds to a halt several times a night while the gaspers step out back.

I couldn't imagine something like that having that much control over me.

Before I was born, both of my grandfathers died of Lung and bone Cancer.

When I was 19 my dad died of Lung and bone Cancer.

When I was 24 my mom died of Lung and bone Cancer.

I have all of the incentive I will ever need to not smoke.
