I quit smoking cigarettes a long time ago. Sometime in the early 80's, without revealing too much of my age. As a young man growing up in a ranching and farming community, I was lured to the "chewing tobacco" alternative.
For the next twenty years I quit on and off, but chewing tobacco is FAR more addictive than smoking. I'd quit for a few months, start up again, usually based on an excuse of how stressful my work was. Bollocks, it's all about the addiction. A friend of mine and I spent hours talking about it. Sometimes chewing gum will make you miss the craving. Smelling the raw tobacco will make the small hairs on the back of your neck stand up in desire.
In June I quit for the -- I hope -- final time. Right after that I had a severe allergic reaction to an OTC pain cream and was given prednisone. Some people get psychotic mood swings on prednisone. I'd be one of those people. Coupled with the nicotine cravings I was a menace to society but I didn't succumb to the temptation and you shouldn't either. Hang in there.

PS: Yes, I still smoke cigars, and have no plans to quit them. Damn me and my double standards.
