[OT] Hockey Fever: The NHL Playoffs Thread Part II

I can't believe people are actually talking about Ice Hockey when The World Cup is about to kick off.

Until most US "World" competitions The World Cup one actually includes most of the world (not just the USA and perhaps its immediate neighbours).

Yeah, but there are lots of European players in the NHL, plus the Stanley Cup just looks ten times cooler. :)

I'd be more dejected about the Leafs if I didn't have the new SW Core Book to pore over today.... you'd think the Ottawa Sens might get it right one of these years and a Montreal won't always knock off a Boston.

With Rob Blake as a fellow native of Simcoe, Ontario, I guess I'd prefer to see Colorado win of the three that are left, even though I won't be watching the final much anyway.

I would love to see the Wings-Avs series continue. Forget about about the Hurricanes, when the Avs-Wings series is over, let them play another one!

This is easily the best hockey of the year (possible rival was the Canada-US Olympic match but that was only one game). I don't really care who wins, I just want to see more of this!

For all that's wrong with the NHL, this series is what's right with it.

Well as fan of Hockey it really bites in my mind the leafs didn't make it BUT again, their offense didn't come when they need. They HAD the goaltending. (Joseph and Irbe put on one HELL of a clinic!) But unfortunately the Canes proved they have heart too. I just wish the Leafs had had more. Mainly because I would like to see ONE Canadian team in the Cup finals for a change. It's been a long time since 1993 folks. But in any case, I agree, the winner of this Western Conference series, while not complete cake walk, WILL go on to win the Cup. The West is just that damn good.

Oh well...here we go again. First team ever to play three game 7's in the same year. I hope the visiting team can keep up the good paly on the road. The Dominator made some amazing saves and Patrick and the rest of the world can't believe the first goal he gave up! Another great game and I don't expect anything less in game 7.

Go AVS!

This series is what hockey is all about it is just a shame that this isn't the finals. It should be the winner friday night should not be forced to go through the motions and play carolina but that is the way it is set up.

Maybe thy should just forget about this east west thing.Let the top 16 teams make the playoffs regaurdless of geograhpical location and let 1st play 16th etc. They way the two best would hopefully be the two playing for th cup at the end.

As for Carolina I commend their tenacity but lets face they have played a 6th seed an 8th seed and a 4th seed(although toronto deserved 2nd seed) they have not play a team with the talent or even the seeding of a Colorado or a Detroit. Not to mention the fact that some teams that didn't even make the playoffs had more points than the lower seeds in the east.

I do think that Detroit will prevail the odds are against Colorado they have already won two game 7's luck won't shine on them a third time.

GO WINGS!!!

Well I knew it was kind of a sign that the wings would win this game, especially since the Avs didn't score in the first like they normally did. Still can't believe Roy lost that puck but...that's the way it goes some times.

Well, the results from last night were unfortunate, but not entirely unexpected. The teams are so evenly matched that game 7 was almost inevitable. Hopefully Colorado can close out the Wings in game 7 - they have much, much more recent experience in playing game 7.

They also need to get back some of the injured players. Having to dress a defenseman as a forward to fill in sure didn't help, and then having Yelle leave early was bad as well. I guess we'll see Friday night.

Of course, the article at CNNSI tells it best:
"Other than Avalanche supporters, the rest of the hockey world gets what it was wishing for -- a Game 7 between these two teams. "

*sigh*

For those of you who are awarding the Cup to the West...

Just try and remember sparky, three teams have underestimated the Canes already. I would love for the Canes to win the Cup, if only to shock the living daylights out of everyone.

I'll believe it when I see it. No matter who wins, Wings/Avs, there's just no way they can shut down either teams firepower.
