[OT] How can I live without sleep? (Help me P-kitty!)

The problem with that is that I never drift off to sleep. I'll start thinking about the campaign and thinking about it will keep me away.

I'm also bad about having halucinations just before dozing off. Sometimes that is a bad thing when your subconscious is touring the Caves of Chaos. :eek:

The wife has a mild anxiety problem, which keeps her up at night worrying. I'm pretty good at not worrying, but I keep myself up thinking about everything else - gaming, the book I'm reading, listening to whatever song is currently playing on the soundtrack in my head...

Nothing like an inspiried nightmare.

I remember once when I was planning out an encounter dealing with trolls and hill giants torturing elves.... somewhere along the way I fell asleep and dreamt the sequence of events with ME being one of the people chained to the wall watching.

Though describing the scene out later came out really well, at least one player had a squimish look and stopped eating the gummi worms on the table.

I'm lucky, I'm a sound sleeper - never have a problem once I'm actually in bed.

but I'm not so lucky in that I have a dog, who get me up at 6:30 - everyday...and I often do not go to bed until 12.

What I recommend: set you ebdroom up using feng shuei (sp?)

No television, cool colors, difused or no light. make the bed the ceterpiece of your room - the focus.

No caffeine after 6PM!

Regarding excersize: 30min to 60 min of vigorous activity, 3-5 times a week. You'll sleep like a baby!

Do not go over money (do you bills in the AM!), work, or emotional issues before bed. These tend to be high sources of stress, which can lead to insomnia.

Finally, although some recommend against it - a glass (or two) of wine, preferably red, full bodied, but mellow, with little tanic aftertaste. Alchohol is a depressant, and will get your body ready for sleep.

I've been in the army now for 2 months, and on about two accasions i've been able to sleep more than 5-6 hours. You just have to eat and drink alot and perhaps do some running in the evenings.

If they ever invent something that reduces the need for sleep without any side-effect, I'm going to be the first to buy it. It isn't as good as an elixir of long life, but it gets close.

Getting sick and tired of being sick and tired.
 

My normal night's sleep is 5-6 hours, but I'm lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) in that I have to sit on a bus for one hour to get to my school and again on the way back.
That's when I sleep, keeps me going. Of course, staying here on the boards till around 2 in the morning before going to bed and then having to wake up at 6.30 isn't the best thing to do.
In fact, it's nearing midnight for me just now. Time to grap a shower and get to bed.
