[OT/Humor] What's your "Holy Grail"?

What's your favorite game-derailling pop culture reference?
South Park. Especially the episode, "Scott Tenorman Must Die."

What's worse, is it's only one other player and myself. We were getting better, but this Friday will be the first time we've played in two months. I can already feel lines rising to my lips:

"And after a night with the hack saw, I was all ready to put on my 'Chili Con Carnival!'"

Dead alewives, Doh from the simpsons, various common oneliners from southpark (I hate you guys, they killed ______, you bastards! Screw you guys Im goin home...), Game over from aliens, python quotes (mainly grail), princess bride quotes, army of darkness quotes, and the old wasssup! bud ads. (this typically happens on a nat 20 or high damage rolls)

But in the last two sessions we have had a new one:

Yaaaaaaaaay!

You know that kid from crank yankers. So we now get lines like this:

We killed the ogre! Yaaaaaaaay! Now my friends can have treasure! Yaaaay!

Alas, another is added to the cannon.

Aaron.

1. South Park, always. As the comedic high-water mark of the last century, the show get's quoted a lot ("Screw You Guys, I'm Going Home". "Oh My God, They Killed Lidda! You Bastards!")

2. Tenacious D. We quote the D fairly infrequently, but always to game-stopping effect. If you whack a party member, you can always defend your actions by claiming that he "was encroaching on my decrees!"

All Dukes are "Kick-ass Dukes".

Actually, just about everything is Kick-Ass, which completes the circle back to South Park.

Some of what's been mentioned above, but as of recently- a ton of 8 Bit Theater quotes have been worming their way into our gaming.

"Blearg I am Dead!" and "I like Swords.. I like Swords.. I like Swords.." are the most popular.

Most of ours have been mentioned. Remind me to record my flawless Warcraft II Footman impression some time.

The only other one is Penny Arcade. I've carried on entire conversations with PA quotes. :)

"Somebody call Guinness, I'm about to go from zero to drunk in 20 dollars."

"She's all 'You'd rather play that Starsiege: Tribes or whatver instead of see me."
"So what did you say?"
"Nothing, really. I mean, you know how much concentration it takes to fly those scouts."
"True dat."

Our group is filled with players who watch A LOT of movies. Tons and tons of movies. So we quote it all. Sometimes, a player will use a really obscure quote just to put forth an on the spot challenge to see who can name where it came from first.

But, I'll tell you some sources that seemed to come up the most.

>>Star Wars: but not during a Star Wars game and not the main quotes. Usually stuff like, "He's got too much of his....FATHER....in him" in a exaggerated Aunt Beru voice and with a slight perveted suggestive nature when saying the word "father". Usually said in regard to the main villian. Yes, we're disgusting a lot times.

Or if we get into a horse drawn wagon filled with goods we're trying to get away with, someone will jump on the driver's bench and say, "Punch it Chewie!"

>>Lord of the Rings: c'mon, this is D&D isn't it? Its bound to show up in our games. But again, in the wrong places. Like if we're at a bar and the fighter needs to resist the temptation to drink. He's got be able to fight later! So of course the barmaid will keep pestering him if he wants to order a tankard. This is where we use things like (in the best Gandalf voice we can do and real over the top), "Do not tempt me!"

Maybe even keep going with the same lines from the same scene. Look seriously at the barmaid and say, "Through me it would wield a terrible evil!" Then the barmaid would be like, "Ooookay, just asking if you wanted a drink."

>>HEAT, yes the LA crime story with Deniro and Pacino. This gets quoted the most I think. Weird huh?

"She's got a GREAT @$$! And you got your head...ALL THE WAY UP IT! Fierce aren't I?"

"C'mon brother, its a substance abuse problem...."

"You can get killed walking your doggie!"

"GIMME ALL YOU GOT!!"

While snapping fingers, "Keeps me on the edge, where I gotta be."

Pretty much most of the sources people have listed crop up in our games at some point or another. Two that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

1) From pre-empting announcements for TV shows, usually used right after someone has kicked open a door they shouldn't have: "We now interrupt your regularly scheduled dungeon crawl to bring you this horde of ravening gnolls!!

and 2) From the promos of Touched by an Angel, Little House, or any other treacle drenched program, usually said in combat: "Tonight, on a very special Battle with the Goblin Horde, Tordek takes a mace to the nads..."

when the first gnome in our party was named Timmay.

we had the battle cry, "TImmMMAYY"

our new gnome has a fox familiar named Redd. ;)

Heh. When my board-gaming group plays Guillotine, the Duke card is, of course, proclaimed to be a "Kick-ass Duke". That, and the Clown is always the "Ass-clown". Also, when the Missing Heads card is played, the proper thing is to throw your hands up in dismay and say "He ATE it!"

Man, Guillotine is fun.
