(OT) I have never known fury like this

A guy just rowed out of New York harbor this morning to go solo across the Atlantic ocean. He's scheduled to make it (not sure of the landing point) to his destination sometime in October. That'd have me over the edge sometime in August... ;)

The telling part is that a number of these facilities, in countries with, apparently, actual concern about such things, have been shut down, and they would be outright illegal on british, and I suspect american soil.

Has the US ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child yet? ALthough I guess this a violation of basic Human Rights as well, and there's plenty in the US Constitution to prevent this. It would classify as "Cruel and Unusual Punishment", right?

hmm.... I found the article disturbing.

I wondered if the guy running the center would like to be subjected to the same treatment? How long would he last?

That is what I would like him to have to suffer through.

See how long it takes for him to "get with the program".

Personally I would like one of either two things to happen:
1) Me being able to bring in a weapon and several armed cohorts to help me take down the guards. Then, welcome to MY "Fun Day". Only it doesn't stop. And instead of Usher, it's Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Overkill, and Pantera. And now the staff, along with Jay Kay, are being subjected to my "programme". Which is basically a blanket party, with a bit of R. Lee Ermey thrown in for good measure.

2) That one of the girls in this program, when they get back to America, through some bit of serendipity, ends up in New Jersey and meets me. I figure that in about 8 months I can make up for a whole lot of lost living.:o

This is utterly repugnant, and bespeaks the lack of responsibility parents in America take towards their children. I would destroy this facility and the people involved in it if I had the chance.

I suspect he already has. Note that his father runs the parent organization. He's already been indoctrinated into the cult...in fact, he might even have been the impetus for it's creation, for all we know. Because, as far as I can tell, this is a cult.

Equally culpable, though, are any reprehensible parents who would send their children to such a place. Of course, it's also pretty obvious where said children got some of the problems in the first place. Children are rebellious, it's what they do from the minute they can exert any control over their environment. It can be terribly frustrating, but it's also a necessary survival skill. A child needs to rebel, it's part of how they define themselves. This sounds to me like a rich, uninvolved parent's way of throwing money at a problem.

I won't be terribly suprised when the lawsuits start flying. Sooner or later, someone's going to get irreprably hurt, physically or mentally. Wait a few years...once a few of these kids get over the programming, they'll be suing their parents for the abuse. It certainly doesn't sound like something that would make them love them more, if at all.
