[OT] Major Power Outages in NE USA and Canada

An amazing sight, seeing those thousands of people walking down the major roadways. It's just, like, a bit unreal. At least things are flowing well, considering the situation. No major traffic problems (multitude of accidents, etc.) other than some backup caused by light outages and pedestrian congestion. And no panics or riots or anything silly like that. It's all good, just a little slow. :)

They are restricting take-offs, and they are landing (or re-routing) planes that were in holding patterns or otherwise in the air. They have back up generators for things such as this and there are NO accidents or panic being reported. Things are being handled remarkably well.

From CCN.com:

A state official told CNN the massive power outages were the result of electrical overload -- not terrorism -- at the Niagara Mohawk power grid, which supplies power to New York and stretches into Canada.

Suuuuuuuuure, blame it on us New Yorkers!!!

The major plant in NY is at Niagara Falls, that's the one that would have overloaded.

Right now in NY, I know both Syracuse and Buffalo do have power, though about half an hour west of Syracuse does not.
